Elizabeth Edwards has linked the outpouring of sympathy for her battle against cancer with the campaign for the presidency being waged by her husband, John.
Yesterday she proudly compared efforts to galvanise grassroots activists to the support that she had received from thousands of ordinary Americans since announcing last week that her cancer had come back.
In what was billed as a nonpolitical speech to the Cleveland City Club in Ohio, Mrs Edwards ... said that it would be entirely legitimate for Americans to judge that he is putting ambition ahead of family by running for president even though his wife has incurable cancer.
The Democrat contender for the White House insists that all he can do is try to persuade voters that he is running for the right reason...
But on the internet there are signs of cynicism, even a backlash. John Edwards announces that his slowly dying campaign will not be rushed by his slowly dying wife, ...
Watch Edwards milk this for every tear, vote and advantage like the oily personal-injury attorney he is, was a comment posted by a right-wing blogger on Free Republic.
In a CBS 60 Minutes interview broadcast on Sunday night, Mr Edwards was asked if he was capitalising on his wifes illness.
...Mrs Edwards also defended their decision to carry on with the campaign, saying that she could not live with the idea that Id taken out this fine man from the possibility of giving a great service I dont want that to be my legacy.
Pollsters and strategists remain uncertain as to how her illness will affect the race ... Professor Elizabeth Nehren, of Boston University, predicted that he will lose support among women voters who see his decision as callous and selfish...

Positive note: Freepers are quoted seeing through the syrup. You ARE making a difference!
Question: Where is the discussion - and the example - of a terminal mother showing the children she will leave behind how to cope with sever life challenges? Is the example we learn from one of not acknowledging one's reality? If so, can this be extended to foreign affairs? Like not acknowledging Islamo-fascit terrorist threat and withdrawing troops? What do we learn from the Edwards in this?
Shoot, no wonder. He doesn't want to hear her whining about radiation and chemo. He has people to listen to her.
And the hair in the shower drain. Eww. Eww.
The worst comment the Edwards' made to Katie Couric's interview, in my opinion, was the rehearsed answer to her query about their children. They said they wanted their children to be able "to fly"...something straight from a sappy Hallmark card. Katie said something to the effect that at ages SIX and EIGHT, she thought they were a little young to fly on their own. Their attitude almost implied that their adopted children were photo ops and props, to be used when needed.
No way he can concentrate on his duties as president with a sick and dying wife. If the man (and I use the term loosely) had a shred of integrity, he's quit the campaign trail and spent the time with his wife. But ambulance chaser that he is, he's already demonstrated that he has none.
Id taken out this fine man from the possibility of giving a great service I dont want that to be my legacy.
...sounds like a winning legacy all the way around! These people are not in this to "help" this country or to "help" the "working class", as they claim. They're in this for one reason...THE EDWARDS!! These fake, sick, SOB's make me want to puke!
Just another example of the -ME- generation putting the kids last.
Does this mean that if Edwards is elected that his wife will be the actual POTUS?
The Edwards have used and continue to use their kids for their own political gain.....the Edwards are despicable bottom feeders....
*sigh*
Their kids are NOT adopted. They were conceived late in life after the death of their son.
Gee, no resentment THERE! The Freeper is right, IMHO.

Considering Katie's own experiences with her own husband dying and her own children's pain, I suspect it took every bit in her to not turn on this liberal.
their children are not adopted
I agree with your sentiments exactly.
couldn't resist?
Another selfish decision. These kids were born when she was old enough to be a grandmother. Let me ask you if you really think this women took care of these two babies. The children were conceived for polical reasons. Elizabeth could not be more of a stepford wife. DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING people.
That is a horrific thing to say about losing her hair in the shower drain. I've had a lot of close relatives die from cancer and it's not something to make fun of. I hope YOU never get cancer. You should be ashamed of yourself, but I doubt if you are.
Is it hard being holier than everyone else? I've never tried it.
I couldn't care less who took care of those kids, they're not mine, and I don't expect to be consulted when people make such personal decisions. But if we're going to pat ourselves on the backs here at FR for having opinions based on facts (read over your previous post), then we better base them on ACCURATE FACTS.
Venting anger wherever I can.
Your post was offensive. I am still hurting from losing loved ones from cancer, watching them lose their hair....then their lives. If that makes me "holier than thou" then I am GUILTY AS CHARGED.
