Is it just me or is this a replay of the '79 hostage incident?

I think this is how it will be resolved. The Iranians don't simply want individual sailors to "confess" (as the woman did today). Iran did this once before and got the Brits to grovel in the person of individual sailors. But to them, seeing people grovel is like an addiction: you always need more. The first time, it was enough for the sailors to grovel. Now they want GB to grovel.

This was a propaganda stunt from the beginning. Ahmadinejab knew he was going to lose the sanctions vote and wanted an out so he wouldn't have to go to the UN - but he also wanted something that would make it look as if this came from a position of strength rather than weakness. So he picked a successful strategy that Iran had used before, and simply upped the ante. No biggie.

I do find this too hard to believe. It is likely the women will be released tommorow, but there will be no admission or apology.

What a sickening situation.

Iranian mullahs want and need war. Been obvious since the hostage taking in 79. The west used the proxy Saddam to feed and tame the Iranian Mahdi wannabes, but Saddam got out of control and had to be eliminated. Iranians know that ground forces cannot enter Iran without suffering massive suicidal attacks. Would be comparable to the US invading Japan during WWII instead of just nuking a couple of cities and demanding and getting an unconditional surrender.

They said they would release them by the end of the week.

Did anyone here actually believe that? They will milk this for all its worth. demand after demand will be made.

While we are searching for face saving solutions, I for one would like Tehran bombed for the constant threats we must endure.

Piss on Tehran. Britain has the means to nuke at least a couple dozen Iranian military targets, without breaking a sweat. Kidnapping those British service personnel from Iraqi waters was an act of war, plain and simple. Period. I doubt the Brits (or American politicians, unfortunately) have the balls to do it, but smoking a couple dozen Iranian military targets would probably put an end to this kind of '3rd-world-hostage-taking-terrorism' once and for all...

Amazing when you consider how many ships the British lost or sacrificed while retaking the Falklands.
