Being Pro Affirmative action is not necessarily the same as being for quotas and forcing folks to do what they otherwise might not do. Some folks can't see the distinction, and want to assume the negative.

No, they are not precisely the same, but they are kissin' cousins and in the same boat or racial and gender discrimination. And, affirmative action violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution to all conservative jurists.
