Been a long time, but IIRC, Farpoint Station was in the farthest reaches of the Federation.
Encounter at Farpoint was the 2 hour pilot episode of ST:Next Generation. Picard took the Enterprise there to negotiate with the local race for use of their huge space station facilities.
It turned out that the "station", which had been "built" by the local alien race, was really formed of enslaved space "jellyfish" aliens.
In Trek fashion the enslaved aliens are freed, and Star Fleet helps the locals build a real station.
This is also the episode where the super-being Q was introduced.
Between the 'farthest point'; making it one word; involving an "alien culture"; and (unmentioned, nearby) jellyfish, (I've stepped on a few on SoCal beaches) it didn't seem like much of a reach to conclude the name came from a Trekkie-techie.
Farpoint Station was also referenced in later episodes.
Having actually worked on the site mentioned and finding artifacts of significant importance there, and working along side both Dr Stickel and Edgar Perez, I can attest to the honesty, sincerity and professional attitude involving this clovis site and these two individuals.
Granted... I too think the homeowner has complied with every reasonable request and that they the homeowners have every right to their privacy and their desire to live in their home without any further delays.
This project has been on-going for two years, and during this time the homeowners have halted construction many times in order to comply with all request by both the city and archeaologist regarding this site.
Enough already... let these people live in peace and quiet.
Buying them out would cost MILLIONS, in addition, should the homeowners ever want to expand their home( and I cant imagine why..It’s huge already) they would have to get permits from the city, hire an archeaologist and the whole problem would start all over again.
Especially after all of the news articles that mention the site already... I bet the homeowners would re-think their choice for their home if they were given the chance to do it all over again.
As for the point itself... It is called clovis because of the type of projectile point that it is.
The geographical area that the point was found in was the aboriginal homelands of the Gabrielino-Tongva people.
