The MSM describes truth such as the Swiftboat ad as 'controversial', but it describes a lie such as the CBS TANG memos as 'fake but accurate'.

The truth only hurts when one is consistently on the opposite side.
The public deserves straight answers to important questions. Not outright deception. When a large group of people come forward with accusations, it has to be true.
DemoRats do it all the time and many people follow their lead.

You're right. Bush should have let it go to a vote. "Rolling-over" allows the Democrats to continue to mis-charactarize Kerry's election loss & the legitimacy of the Swiftboat Vets.

They knew the committee was going to vote him down, with long speeches about how he wasn't qualified.

Is it better to be "withdrawn" because one democrat senator can't handle the truth, or be voted down by an official act of the Senate?

If this was a high-profile cabinet office, I would say the latter would be better. But are you going to try to launch a media relations war over a political appointment to Luxemburg, one you know you are going to lose because the media won't tell the truth?

Bush probably found another job the guy could have that didn't require senate confirmation.

Democrats learn through repetition.

Every time President Bush bows to them they are emboldened just a little more.

For every foot he gives them, they take a yard.

After seven years of observing this "up close and personal" on a daily basis, you'd think President Bush would have learned a thing or two.

Apparently not.

Yeah, it's like Bush has given up and now think he works for the DNC. He'll never be able to please them, he's been acting this way since last November.

I would like to someday see the LMSM admit that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth WERE telling the truth. When, oh when, is Kerry going to sign the release of his military records???? When h*** freezes over?

Has Kerry EVER made his Military records public, as he promised? I think not. Why did Fox not elude to this?

Bush keeps shooting himself in the web. Small wonder he's a lame duck.

"Why did Fox not elude to this?"

I can only speculate, because I'm in no way an insider, nor do I have enough memory cells left (a lot of acid in the 60's ... never mind ... ), to keep any information in my head, but if there is indeed a star chamber in Washington, and a few people know about it, and whether there is or there isn't, there is at least a closing of ranks on their own, if you're in the 'in crowd' ... I would imagine someone in a position to really piss someone off, and the pisser is not as connected and protected as the pissee ... it might be wise to play stupid.

That's really the only rational conclusion I can ever come to when I see or read what's going on in our government.

As I recall, President Bush is on record stating that he wanted to revise the campaign finance laws to prohibit groups like the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. This was after he was reelected with major help from the Swifties.

You recall correctly, except he said it during the campaign when asked about the SBVFT. He said that all 527s should be eliminated including the SBVFT. At the same time, McCain called them "dishonest and dishonorable."

It is a disgrace that Bush caved in to this kind of pressure. Kerry's questioning of the nominee was beyond the bounds of our political system. The nominee did nothing wrong contributing to a legitimate 527 group that really was non-partisan. It is now a crime to be a Rep and a contributor to political groups that don't meet with the approval of the Dems.

I contributed four times to the SBVFT. I am proud of it.

LOL. You must be joking. Mr Fox doesn't need a government job or handout. He is a wealthy contributor who was being given an Ambassadorship. It is done all of the time. About 35% to 40% of all ambassadors are political appointees. It is an honor.

Ping. Bush's "favorability" rating is 38% in the Fox poll.

Kerry released his records via an SF-180 to a few select reporters. He did not authorize the release of his medical records.

Form 180s that were recently signed by John Kerry to permit, at long last, the release of his military records. Here are the three documents that Kerry signed

It was a good thing. Bush was right to withdraw. Why fight the Dems over this anyway?
