Regulation: The food police are back, with the misnamed Center for Science in the Public Interest saying this time that Chinese food is bad for us. Put that egg roll down and back away slowly.
If you're a prisoner on death row, don't order any Chinese food, at least according to the CSPI food cops. The sodium alone will kill you. A plate of General Tso's chicken, the group says, has 40% more sodium and more than half the calories the average adult needs daily.
Those who remember Seinfeld's 'Soup Nazi' shouting 'No soup for you!' whenever a customer dared to stray from his ordering and menu-selection protocol must have had a sense of deja vu when CSPI issued this latest warning of culinary doom.

How is it different?
If it has alot of soy sauce it will still have lots of sodium, won't it?
HA! Soaking chicken parts in a salt water brine to kill bacteria has been a health requirement to restaurants for years. The ultra high sodium content resulting from this is just ignored when complaing about sodium content. :-(
There wasn't very much salt at all, no breading (coating) on the meats, the vegetables were fresh, and very little oil used in the making of the stir fry.
The taste was VERY different from what you get in almost ANY chinese restaurant in the USA.
Yeah, I knew they didn't bread-coat and deep fry over there, but I thought they still used soy sauce a good bit.
Japanese use soy sauce pretty regularly, and some of their fish dishes are pretty salty. I found that out when I was on an extended stay over there. But they serve alot more fresh food and lightly enhanced dishes than we do in this country.
Lots. They're all Chinese though.
How come the chicken I get at a Chinese restaurant doesn't look like the chicken I get anywhere else? Even in a $1 Banquet tv dinner.
Not unless it's a noodle dish. Then they use some soy sauce to flavor the noodles.
My wife is Chinese and teaches wok cooking:

The food in most American "Chinese" restaurants is NOT what Chinese people eat. It's been created for the American palate (deep fried, salty, with lots of brown goopy sauce). Many Chinese restaurants have two menus... one for the Chinese and one for the kuai lo's (foreign devils).
This is the reason my wife never uses the word "Chinese" to describe her cooking. Authentic home style wok cooking is healthy, delicious, and simple.
Cat's in the kettle
Did you ever think, when you eat Chinese
It aint pork or chicken but a fat siamese?
Yet the food tastes great, so you dont complain.
But thats not chicken in your chicken chow mein.
Seems to me I ordered sweet-and-sour pork
But Garfields on my fork.
Hes purrin here on my fork.
...
Theres a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon
The place that I eat every day at noon.
They can feed you cat and youll never know
Once they wrap it up in dough, boys:
They fry it real crisp in dough.
...
Chou Lin asked if I wanted more
As he was dialin up his buddy at the old pet store.
I said "Not today. I lost my appetite.
"Theres two cats in my belly and they want to fight."
I was suckin on a Rolaid and a Tums or two
When I swear I heard it mew, boys:
And that is when I knew...
...
Theres a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon
I think I gotta stop eatin there at noon.
They say that its beef or fish or pork
But its purrin there on my fork.
Theres a hair-ball on my fork.
That's good chow fun.
LOL!
Can you cook SPAM, turnip greens and taters at the same time in a WOK? YA know....homeboy stir-fry. Or, would that offend a Muslim somewhere? ;)
No problem there. Actually, Asians have their own version of turnip greens - bok choy. Bein' a meat and taters kind of guy, I don't like either.
As far as meat goes, if it used to move around, they will eat every part of it - feet, ears, tail, head
I can't tell you how much I hate that brown sauce by now.
Sometimes I let my guard down and order a standard chicken veg & steamed rice meal from a cookie-cutter Chinese place and SLOP! I get a mess of brown sauce with what used to be food buried in it.
It makes me so sad when I think of the delicious fitty cent fried squid cooked in front of me on the side of the road in Taiwan...
It's an uncontrovertible - but widely denied - fact that life invariably ends in death.
Somebody (probably these same leftist busybodies) publishes this "Chinese food is bad for you" article every couple of years or so. As the prime example, they always use a dish like sweet and sour pork, General Tso's chicken, etc.; deep-fried, breaded meat covered in sugary, starchy glop and served with a quart of white rice. There is no one on this Earth who thinks these dishes are particularly healthy. The only reason leftists assume their monotonous trivialities are "news" to the reading public is because of their (the leftists') supreme arrogance. Mark my words, you will see this exact same article again in a couple of years' time.
We'll probably see it two days from now when someone re-posts it on FR.
Do a search, people! ;P
