Iran cites attack fears for decision to keep nuclear information from U.N.

Iran, in a confidential letter posted Friday on an internal Web site of the U.N. nuclear monitor, said its fear of attack from the U.S. and Israel prompted its decision to withhold information from the agency.
The IAEA, in response, urged Iran to reconsider, saying the decision would be in defiance of the monitor's 35-nation board. Both the Iranian document and the confidential IAEA response were made available to The Associated Press.

That makes no sense whatever, unless the withheld information would be so alarming that an attack would be a sure thing.

Let me start by saying I have zero trust for the Iranians and actually hope we take their program out by any means necessary. But suppose you are the Iranians and you believe the US fully plans to attack you, even though you are merely trying to develop peaceful nuclear technology. Even though you are totally innocent, you might not want to give the US information they could use to target your totally peaceful development facilities.
