ABC's "This Week"

  • Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
  • Presidential counselor Dan Bartlett

  • Cal Ripken Jr.

Week three of the "exploitable eight" freak show and it's wearing pretty thin.  If they can't get Gonzalez within this next week then this is a failed maneuver, and they know it.  All the stops are out and this will probably be a week for very shrill rhetoric.  Leahy, Schumer, Biden, Specter, Feinstein and Durbin, along with Lil Timmah, Old Bob, Georgie Steponallofus, Wolfie and Mike Wallace's boy will all be in full dudgeon.  Harumph, harumph.  And not a word about Chuck Schumer's criminal identity theft operation or DiFi's billions in pork steered to her husband's companies.  That wouldn't fit the anti-Bush template that guides their every thought and is the source of their every breath.

NBC Meet The Press has potentially the most interesting confrontation in Hatch and Leahy.  Hatch is not being rolled on this one.  He's not kind to Gonzalez or the White House on how they've handled this, but he hasn't conceded any of the Dhimmicrat talking points, at least so far.  Gonzalez' former aid, Kyle Sampson, was a staffer on Judiciary when Hatch ran it and is from Utah (and is a Mormon as well), but Hatch didn't back him when he tried to get a US Attorney job for himself.  Might that failure be part of this?  Sampson did say he was counting on his "close relationship" with Chucky to skate on his testimony.  The dynamics here are quite interesting.  And Charlie Rangel is on, the only member of the House to get face time in several weeks, and he's only there to hawk his new book.  Could it be that the unholy alliance of the Dhimmicrats and the DBM don't want anyone paying any attention to the Taliban party's actions under the control of the Nations Mother In Law?  After all, she wouldn't allow a vote on a resolution condemning the illegal seizure of the British sailors in Iraqi waters before she flew off for a little confab with her good friend, Bashar Al Asad.  Alice would hardly recognize wonderland, these days.  It's gotten even more bizarre than in her day.

CBS Face The Nation brings us something like the third straight week of the Chucky and Snarlin Arlen road show.  These guys are trying to bring back vaudeville all by themselves.  Who's on first?  Oh, and there's some guy from the White House around for bashing, as well.  Ho hum.

Fox News Sunday Mitch McConnell is on with Howdy Doody... oh, excuse me, Joe Biden, who has been in hiding for several weeks while he tried to organize a presidential bid without actually appearing in public.  He's going to try a to run a virtual campaign, with virtual funds and virtual supporters.  We'll see if he can fool the DBM.  The odds are in his favor.  Mitch McConnell is obviously a very effective Republican leader as the DBM is very reluctant to give him air time and the moonbats have declared him target number one for the next election cycle.  When his reelection campaign posts a link for making donations I'll make a point of highlighting it on FR.  The roundtable appears abbreviated this week, with Brit, Bill and Mara, but not Juan and apparently no substitute for him.  That probably means a smack down free week.  Too bad.

CNN Late Edition has what at first appears to be their usual cast of thousands, but that's deceiving.  In truth they have a face off between Kit Bond and DiFi, no doubt over the "exploitable eight" and going nowhere near DiFi's ethical scandals.  Then they have a heart to heart with Reverend Al about why he just can't get no respect as a presidential candidate and how much the love fest going on with that high yellow Unca Tom in the DBM upsets him.  What's left is a circular expression of mutual admiration amongst dinosaur media types.... ahem....  Not a real Middle East person of interest to be found.  Things must really be going our way over there.

ABC This Week brings us the glory that is Turban Durbin along with this weeks White House punching bag Dan Bartlett.  Get out your stop watch.  I'm predicting three to one time advantage for Durbin as well as offering him the position after Bartlett, not at the same time.  No prejudice there.  None at all.  Tommy Thompson was a last minute addition to this line up.  He must have assured Tiny George that he has some particularly nasty comments about Bush or "that spic" Gonzalez to get the face time.  After all, Tommy has a Presidential campaign to try to manufacture.  Tommy wants to turn Hillarycare into Tommycare and ride that pony into the White House, all to the tune of "I'm the real conservative in this race."  The melody sucks but there's a bit of rhythm there.  I wonder if it'll catch on?  Well, the DBM will love it, that's for sure.

The Saturday shows actually contain a couple of surprises, this week (disclaimer, both BB and FNW are already over as I write this).  First, the Beltway Boys have had an epiphany.  The Dhimmicrats are actually trying to destroy the presidency of George Bush, at all costs.  Who would a thunk it?  Welcome to the twenty first century, boys.  Better late than never.  You're only six years behind the curve.  CNBC's Tim Russert Show is either a repeat or an extension of last weeks show or they figure nobody watches anyway so why bother updating the info on the MTP web page.  It's worthless either way.   Fox News Watch also has an epiphany, this time about the DBM ignoring this weeks Iranian casus belli.  Hey, they're Aryans.  They get a pass.  They are the master race, after all.  The Journal Editorial Report offers their usual reasoned and reasonable examination of actual information that might prove useful to us.  Of course, that's not good enough to warrant any ratings.  I mean, they haven't devoted an entire show to Anna Nichol, have they?  Who do they think they are?

Bottom line, this week is about as artificial and phony as any yet conceived by the DBM.  Ironically they've had to provide space for people like Hatch and McConnell, which may just spell the beginning of the end for our dinosaur brethren.  They won't be missed.

This should be cross posted to my blog at Wizards.townhall.com later today, though I have yet to cross post the last two weeks items to my blog and will rectify that first. This post exists primarily as a heads up for who is on the weekend talks shows, what they've been invited on to push (based on their recent pronouncements) and the spin (meme) the DBM is likely trying to push based on that information. All of this is prep work for the weekly Sunday Morning Talk Show thread posted by Alas Babylon!. That thread provides a live commentary and analysis of the Sunday talking head shows, with valuable insight and exceptional fact checking. we are the Jedi Council of FreeRepublic, at least in regards to these DBM gabfests. You wanna know what was said and what it meant, as well as where they messed up? Read that thread!

Mark Kilmer has posted his excellent preview of the Sunday shows over at Redstate.COM.

I'd say Fox News has the most watchable....while I don't care for Biden politically he is a very entertaining and usually interesting....not to mention very articulate.

Has anyone read Martha Raddatz's book? It seems interesting. She was on the Laura Ingraham radio show a couple of weeks ago.

The Weekend Talk Show Preview Thread is up

It will also be cross posted (sometime soon... maybe) to my blog at

http://wizards.townhall.com/

Here's a sample of  my usually witty commentary...

<snip>

Bottom line, this week is about as artificial and phony as any yet conceived by the DBM.  Ironically they've had to provide space for people like Hatch and McConnell, which may just spell the beginning of the end for our dinosaur brethren.  They won't be missed.

My visit with my eye surgeon today went okay, but only okay.  He did end up pulling two more stitches, hence this very late post of the preview thread.  At least he didn't do any new cutting on the eye today like two weeks ago!  He ended up saying he's skeptical about being able to fit a contact lens to get me vision as things stand, which means we may end up having to redo the transplant.  Oh joy.  Two weeks from now we begin the process of trying to fit a lens to the affected eye and see if we can come up with something that works.  If we can't get that done then I'm probably looking at a fun time this summer as we try to come up with a "better fit" graft.  I repeat... oh joy.

I will be around tomorrow, but probably not much more than last week.  That will be about half hurtin' eye and half "oh crap" doldrums.  I repeat... oh joy!  Poor me.  Nobody loves me, everybody hates me.  I guess I'll go out into the garden and eat some worms. <g>

Oh, to put my own "trials and tribulations" in some sort of context, will everyone please remember Tony Snow in your prayers?  I know all of this bunch is likely already doing so, but I want to make the gesture to one of my favorite people that there is out there.

Tony, we miss you and we love you.

I live by this motto, "I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet."  Every time I go to my surgeon and begin to feel even the least bit sorry for myself I just have to look around the waiting room and see the people there much worse off than I am.  And to think about dealing with cancer puts my petty problems firmly into perspective.

The roundtable appears abbreviated this week, with Brit, Bill and Mara, but not Juan and apparently no substitute for him.

Maybe since Chris Wallace has taken to participating as a dem partisan on the panel, 2+2 is really the correct number for "balance."

My thought about Hatch and McConnell are that they are both intelligent and effective people. They are both also decent human beings with standards. When Adolf Hitler began his takeover of Germany, some fine people opposed him. People with standards for their personal behavior. We all know how that worked out. I am as conflicted as these good men.

Diane Feinstein has been at the public trough for years enriching herself and her family. So has Harry Reid. There are others, of course. Until good people in positions of power speak up, what are we to do? We write and email and rage about it, but nothing is done. So what have we learned about people in our government? They will protect the wrongdoers if they are powerful enough. I throw up my hands. For the time being anyway.

You have been through so much...and it sounds like you still face a lot more work on your eye.

I don't think I have ever thought for a second you have any self pity....I think you are quite brave, and a whole lot more "ambitious" considering your physical problems than I would be...

I appreciate every word you type...and I know you do suffer for doing it. I don't think I have thanked you enough.

I will pray that you and the Doc will get a contact lense that will work...I can squeeze that pray in between the one for Tony Snow, and the one for our country.

Love the "exploitable eight" and Reverend Al's umbrage at the less than umber Obama. Laughed straight through; you must have "a merry heart" which "is a continual feast."

I am in awe of you doing all this for us, even under ordinary circumstances, but with your current vision problem, I am humbled. Thank you, Phsst, and you are in my thoughts and prayers for a good outcome.
