Thanks Cindy. All my holsters are level 1 thumb break style. The better ones have been invented since I purchased my leather in 1999.

Fantastic article! Just as pertinent to cops as it would be to anyone contemplating Concealed Carry.

Interesting that Kevin Davis hi-lited “gross motor skills” in the article because “fine motor skills” go out the window in a hi-stress situation. I agree completely: that is what the Adrenaline Dump does, and that’s how it works.

Here in NZ it is uncommon for our police to carry sidearms. They are available (9mm Glocks) but not carried. Every cop I’ve ever spoken to here about this policy prefers it that way. They carry a baton and cuffs, and they are trialing Tasers.

The consensus view is that if they were to carry sidearms it would “up the ante” for the criminals, who would feel a need to always reciprocate, but with bigger firepower. And it would leave them exposed to the risk of getting shot with their own handgun.

Also interesting that Kevin Davis hammered in the need to train. His opening paragraph indicated that it’s too late to learn how, once the fight has started.

Naturally, he’s 100% right.

Train, folks! No time like the present...
