Perhaps the greatest damage of all has been done by decades of official adherence to, and promotion of, the ideology of multiculturalism. This left European governments disarmed in the face of a concerted Islamist effort to brainwash Muslim children in an extensive network of of schools, mosques, and charitable organizations, and helpless to combat imams openly inciting violence and hatred. As immigration, higher rates of childbirth, and conversions to Islam have rapidly increased the number of Muslims...spokesmen for these radical organizations have grown more strident, prophesying Islam's triumph over the West. Islamist groups have looked upon their growing success as evidence that France, too, has already become part of the House of Islam. A much-commented upon recent poll found that among British Muslims aged sixteen to twenty-four, 37 percent would prefer to live under shari'a law and would like to send their children to Islamic state schools. Almost the same proportion believe that Muslims who convert to another religion should be put to death. A poll published in Ireland told a similar story, with 57 percent of young Muslims wanting to see Ireland become an Islamic state.
