UK Secularists and Gays Demand Marginalization of Christians

LONDON, April 4, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Triumphing after last month’s passage of the Sexual Orientation Regulations, the UK’s secularists and homosexual activist groups are demanding the curtailing of Christian influence in British society.

Terry Sanderson, head of the National Secularist Society, has produced an editorial calling Cormac Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor’s assertions that public expression of religious belief is under attack in Britain, “breathtakingly manipulative.”

The Cardinal gave a lecture March 28, in which he warned that the secularizing trend will marginalize Christians. He said that religious freedom is more than the freedom to worship, “It is the freedom to serve the common good according to the convictions of our faith. It seems to me we are being asked to accept a different version of our democracy, one in which diversity and equality are held to be at odds with religion.”

Sanderson accused the Vatican of “interfering” with the policies of other countries in its capacity as “a supposed independent state.”

Sanderson writes, “The Catholic Church has happily allied itself with just about every totalitarian regime that has emerged over the centuries in Europe.” He suggests, “It’s time for the Catholic Church – and all the other religious bodies that seek to impose their will on democratic governments – to be firmly put in their place.”

The Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA) has issued a press release saying that the Catholic Church is “not fit” to run schools. The statement comes as a response to a House of Commons Select Committee report claiming that Catholic schools are not doing enough to counter “homophobic bullying”.

George Broadhead, secretary of GALHA said, “We’ve seen homophobia in Catholic circles rising at a terrifying rate over the past few months. The Pope is almost hysterical on the topic and the British Catholic hierarchy is constantly agitating to retard gay rights.”

“For the sake of these children…should be protected from the promotion of bigotry in schools, the Catholic Church should be stripped of its educational establishments.”

A 2004 report from the UK Department of Health defines “heterosexism” as “the presumption that everyone is heterosexual.”

The report goes on to give examples: “The assumption that a male pupil will have, or be looking for, a girlfriend; or that a female parent, when talking about her partner, is referring to a male.”

Another report from the same year by the Department of Education and Skills, talks about, “the importance of addressing schools’ predominantly ‘heteronormative’ cultures, which cajole, persuade or force pupils to conform to particular heterosexual identities and behaviours.”

No, the Church has ALWAYS opposed sin.

The Left of course wants to get rid of those bothersome and judgmental Christians. While they're obtuse to the equally homophobic and judgmental Islamofascists waiting in the wings.

If they give up the C of E which they are, kinda a secular Christianity anyway - could Charles become king?

Well, when it comes to being “breathtakingly manipulative” Terry ought to know.

the British Catholic hierarchy is constantly agitating to retard gay rights

Is he allowed to say "retard," or does he get a pass on account of being a sodomite?

Let someone make a statement about how we should marginalize gays and see the fireworks begin.

As the influence of the Church diminishes in Britain the influence of islam increases. I don’t need to say anymore.

Question: Why are these people so afraid of the Christian/Jewish religion, in any of its forms? I wonder if this relentless search-and-destroy attitude of their's doesn't belie some secret, unacknowledged, forever unacknowledgable fear gnawing inside of them?

BTTT for more evidence that there is a culture war on. One side is evil and wrong, the others side is right. Virtue is essential to human life.

The Patriot Post Quote of the day today:

"We ought to consider what is the end of government before we determine which is the best form. Upon this point all speculative politicians will agree that the happiness of society is the end of government, as all divines and moral philosophers will agree that the happiness of the individual is the end of man....All sober inquirers after truth, ancient and modern, pagan and Christian, have declared that the happiness of man, as well as his dignity, consists in virtue."

-- John Adams (Thoughts on Government, 1776)

If England does not adhere to her Christian tenets with all fours, she will fall. If the U.S. does not condemn the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and other like Communist organizations, and begin to adhere to her Christian foundation, she will fall. God does not bless with protection and abundance those nations who forsake Him.

Charles has stated, that as King, he would be Defender of Faiths, instead of the traditional Defender of the Faith.

Better for the United Kingdom if Queen Elizabeth II were succeeded by her grandson, rather than her son.

This craziness might be why I see so many Brits here in Dallas/Fort Worth these days. Has anyone else noticed a lot of English immigrants?

I used to wonder why a lot of totalitarian books & movies ("1984", "Brazil", "Children of Men", etc.) use Britain in their various "what-if?" scenarios.

The loathing that the PC-left has for everything that they disagree with is astonishing & frightening. UK's totalitarian future is rapidly becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy...

He seems more grounded. It's not good for an adult male to spend his life "waiting-in-the-wings".

Charles does seem happier now since his marriage to Camilla, which would have happened in his youth, except for the bad advice given by the adults in his life (he was told to sow his wild oats and not settle down early).

The UK needs a devoted Christian like Victoria as its monarch.

Oh, I shouldn’t worry too much. Soon enough Sharia law in England will take care of the secularists and the sodomites in ways the Latin Church never dreamed of.
