I have been asking that same question over and over and nobody really gives me an answer. I gotta look at Duncan Hunter-Viet Nam Vet, Paratrooper/Airborne, Armed Services Committe, Iraq Veteran son (and yes it makes a difference, he knows what it’s like to have a child in the line of fire) VS Rudy-Mayor and lawyer. I don’t get it.
ping
LOL. Rudy ain't that type of Italian, I'll tell you that right now.
do you realize how long it takes to build a political image and a persona in this country, to become President? the media can create a Democratic candidate in a couple of months (Obama) out of thin air. But for a republican, its a total uphill battle, a media blackout. And when you are an unknown, you are far easier to define negatively.
Rudy drove the libs absolutely bonkers when he ran nyc. they just HATED him- he lowered crime made welfare unattractive, cut taxes and drastically increased property values.
ABM- anybody but mccain.
Duncan Hunter has no base. He had 28 years in Congress and nobody ever heard of him. That says something. I've heard him speak on radio interviews, and while he says the right things, he projects no persona. He may as well be a man-in-the-street interview. When you start out anonymous, it takes something more to get known than just having the right idea. Millions of people have the right idea. It isn't enough.
tag says it...
It is about executive ability and experience. That’s the job, CEO of the biggest venture on earth. Not a job for a grunt.
Oh come on. he busted the mob pretty good.
In any case, lol, the Sopranos had a gay mob guy, so enough with the cross dressing smack...it's chic.
LOL! That's the tagline of the year.
To all the Rudy haters, stuff like this is why we won’t stay home heartbroken if he wins the nomination.
Answer: Because all of the other candidates who can win are Democrats.
People are using the abortion issue to try to split the conservatives, precisely because the Dems are deathly afraid of Rudy....
I agree. I think a lot of the Anti Rudy abortion hysteria just may be DUers in disguise. If Mexico is legalizing abortion because of the huge number of illegal abortions, it isn’t an issue.
Pat Robertson recently had nice things to say about Rudy. Theres a reason for this. The fact is Giuliani is popular in blue and purple states and has the potential to win in a landslide. That would translate into a Republican victory in the Congressand goodbye Pelosi and Reid. If you want to advance conservative values, therefore, you need to focus first on defeating the Democratsand you cant do that if you nominate someone unable to penetrate Democratic territory. The need to do this is dire. They have more money this time around and have many more registrantsover 50% of eligible voters. They also have the support of the mediaeven while red states like OH are gradually turning purple. So Rudy is the answer to an otherwise pending electoral disaster. Beside, he has pledged to nominate strict constructionists if electedthat should put conservative fears of his pro-choice liberalism at rest. So should a new Congress led by Boehner and McConnell.
When you start out anonymous, it takes something more to get known than just having the right idea.
I agree. While successful democrat candidates can come out of nowhere, due to the hostile MSM press, all elected Republican POTUSs have had nationwide name recognition: either military (Eisenhower) movie star, VEEP, son of a president.
“What makes Rudy better to manage the WOT than the other candidates?”
He’s a managerial genius, that’s why. Crime in NYC plummeted to around 64% as a result of Rudy’s administration, the murder rate alone declining 67%. Rudy shut down porn shops throughout the downtown tourist areas and kicked them out of residential neighborhoods. He went after drug dealers as well—something unheard of in NYC.He also went after the welfare cheats, removing illegal recipients, cutting the outlay for welfare by 20%. Over 600,000 recipients were dropped from the rolls. At the same time he began a work requirement program for remaining recipients.
He ended the set-aside program for minority contractors, refused to meet with Al Sharpton, and otherwise refused to be cowed by racial politics. He refused to lower job requirements for minorities and women. He pushed to reform the city’s schools and supported school vouchers—another view that went against the liberal grain. Ditto his fight against using public money for anti-religious art displays.
He shrunk government in a city with a larger population than most states. He did this by firing thousands of municipal workers, reorganizing the police force and transit authority and trash collection agencies, thus saving hundreds of millions of dollars. He cut taxes and levies over and over, saving billions for taxpayers. He cut NYC’s top income-tax rate by 20.6%. Local city taxes on a family of four dropped 23.7%. He cut the commercial-rent tax. He cut sales taxes, including taxes on clothing. He cut the marriage penalty tax. He cut taxes on commercial rents and on small businesses and self-employed New Yorkers. He privatized municipal assets, selling city-owned radio and television stations and divested the City from the New York Coliseum adding $345 million to erase the City’s red ink. He cut NYC’s hotel tax from 6% to 5%. Tourism increased 50% in the city per year during Rudy’s tenure. Personal income increased 50%. Unemployment in the city went form 10.3% to 5.1%.
In all of this he was fought by the liberal media, beginning with the NYTimes, every step of the way. But he fought back and won over public opinion time and time again. Nor was he just successful as mayor. As a U.S. Attorney in the Reagan administration, Rudy amassed more than 4,000 convictions, including the five family heads of NY’s notorious Mob. He went after Wall Street white collar criminals. He also prosecuted terrorists and illegal immigrants.
What other candidate has such a resume?
Thanks for amassing and posting this information....good stuff.
Where did you collect all of these nuggets? Do you work in the Giuliani campaign? I mean no sarcasm....honest question.
“Was this before or after he pledged his support to publicly funding infanticide?”
Is infanticide illegal? I mean it is the most immoral act one can commit on this planet. But is it illegal? Is infanticide protected under the Constitution?
Let’s ask Rudy this question. If infantided was made illegal by law, would he support that law?
This battle will never be won on Capitol Hill. However, it will be won at the local level so we need to keep up the fight there.
No, I’m a Republican with no activist political background whatsoever. The facts about Rudy have been coming out steadily here and there. US News and World Report’s Mortimer Zuckerman just did a piece repeating most of this. Derwood Murdock for National Review also did a rundown on these same facts. So did Al Simmons in his post on FR not long ago. I simply collated all the stuff. There’s a lot more—it’s just amazing what he achieved. He did it all while outnumbered by liberals five to one. But he got the public behind him and fought every inch of the way. He made a lot of enemies in the process—but as he says, how do you reform a dying city unless you are willing to fight entrenched interests and create enemies? It can’t be done. You can’t save a city and millions of its residents drowning in crime and red ink by trying to be nice. When he left, NY was one of the safest big cities in America and was in the black for the first time within memory.
