China, US, Russia Looking To Tone Down UN Climate Report

Some of the world's biggest polluters have threatened to derail a new UN-backed global climate report, questioning its scientific basis and working to tone down its language before the report is released later this week, according to delegates at the climate conference in Brussels Wednesday.

The United States, Russia and China have reportedly taken the lead in seeking modifications to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report's final draft, compiled by hundreds of scientists assessing global literature on climate change, must still be approved by government representatives meeting at a four-day summit in Brussels.

Russia has been most vocal in its opposition to the IPCC report, which examines the impact of climate change on human society and is the second of three instalments to be released this year by the IPCC. The US has also threatened to prevent the report from being released and both countries have questioned its credibility.

Gabriela von Goerne of the environmental organization Greenpeace said talks on the IPCC report would likely continue late into Thursday night or Friday morning in search of a compromise. The report is due to be released at 0800 GMT Friday.

Excerpts of the draft obtained by Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa paint a dire picture of the impact that global warming could have on Earth if it continues unchecked. The dangers include the extinction of one fifth of all animal species and hundreds of millions of people being driven from coastal regions as sea levels rise.

The first instalment of the IPCC report assessed the scientific basis for climate change itself and said that global warming was "unequivocal," planting the blame squarely on man-made emissions in its most strongly worded assessment to date. The last IPCC report was released in 2001.

Environmental group WWF on Wednesday strongly criticized the reported attempts by governments to tone down the findings of the report.

"People are entitled to the unvarnished truth about global warming. Dumbing down climate science for political purposes is irresponsible," Hans Verolme, director of WWF's global climate change programme, said in a statement. "Governments should not prevent scientists from putting out a strong, clear and honest report."

This is quite a thing to have China and Russia agree with the US.

That report must really be a dilly!

Yes, wouldn’t it be fun to edit that report ourselves?

BTW — if anyone hasn’t seen the video “The Global Warming Swindle”, I highly recommend it. It’s little over an hour long and it gets into specific facts, shows graphs, etc.

When the U.S. and two nations of wannabe communists can agree on something, it’s obvious that we’re right and Manbearpiggyboy is wrong.

Yep. Especially when you figure that both Russia and China are basically knee-jerk anti-American actors who have for the last few years taken every contrary side to the American position, automatically.

As you said, for them to side with us means that the report must be completely insane.

“When the U.S. and two nations of wannabe communists can agree on something, it’s obvious that we’re right and Manbearpiggyboy is wrong.”

No, what happened is Al Gore did something for freedom which is scaring the bejeezus out of the Chinese and Russians. Al Gore came up with a way to mobilize thousands of people against their governments.

There is no way either the Chinese or the Russians will be able to put a protest of this size down. It will get violent and the world will know why. Imagine this headline, “China Jails Thousands in Global Warming Protest.” It shoots Communism in the head which also destroys the Global Warming movement in the US since it is Communist backed.

Best thing to do is to do the truthful thing and debunk the report and make pariahs out of the authors. It will also shut down Al Gore because when three nations say you are full of crap, the world has to take notice.

You raise an interesting scenario.

Both China and Russia fear the global warming scam because it will move the the epicenter of commmunism and its goal of world conquest from these countries to the Marxists at the UN and its fascist NGOs and the international corporations who want to profit off the global warming scam.

We could well see, as you said, two or three Marxist competitors clash over who will ultimately control the communist movement.

We’ve seen the Marxists battle before for control when Hitler attcked Stalin in June, 1940.

This report is coming out Friday.

It will be a hundred pages long with dozens of complicated graphics.

There is no way to edit it now.

Or maybe the report will just be full of errors like the Summary Report released on February 2nd, which had tables that didn’t add up, sea level rise figures in cms rather than mms, comments included in the text which say “This still requires editing” etc.

They have been working on this for two years. Should make for fun reading with all these last minute changes.
