I used to think that tweaks might be able to fix the system. But now, it may be too damaged for that and may need to be rebuilt from the ground up. Of course, no need to reinvent the wheel, just strip away all the ill advised amendments and extra Constitutional crap that’s been allowed to build up. The system as of 1800, plus Civil Rights (but, please note, minus overall UNIVERSAL SUFFRAGE) would be just right. There should be qualifications for voting, but ones that are merit and objective criteria based not aribtrary. Dummies and government dependents not allowed no matter what race, sex or creed. Etc.
The two party system is not in the Constitution. Consider it a rise of factions, which is what the founders tried hard to avoid.
Yes.
It’s a brewing Constitutional crisis. The “pure socialist democracy” envisaged by the Gramscian Left cannot allow anything more than a ceremonial Executive Branch. The PM / Speaker of the House will be the Caesar.
You ARE the Right(correct)Whale.
Paragraph 20 on..
I think the NY Times headline would more likely have read:
TREASON
Newt Shreds Constitution in Traitorous Trip
Well, Newt made a similar mistake. He thought he could use the Speaker’s chair to make policy. He’s a bright guy, but he should have do it the way that Sam Rayburn did, which was to keep a low profile and exercise power behind the scenes, and above all, LISTEN to people.
