The head of a Washington, DC-based organization that promotes ethics in public life is calling on the Senate Ethics Committee to launch an investigation into a possible conflict of interest involving California Senator Dianne Feinstein.
The California Democrat resigned from her chairmanship of the Senate Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee after a report revealed that her husband, San Francisco financier Richard Blum, apparently benefited financially from her votes on the committee. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, questions arose when EG&G Technical Services, a division of the URS Corporation -- partially owned by Blum -- won a $600 million military contract in 2003. Blum served on the URS board of directors from 1975-2005.
Ken Boehm, chairman of the National Legal and Policy Center, believes there is a serious conflict of interest here. "Her husband has financial interests with some of the entities who benefit from the decisions made from her subcommittee. That's a pretty direct conflict of interest," Boehm contends.
Acknowledging that the senator has now stepped down from the subcommittee, the NLPC spokesman offers: "I think what's needed now, though, is a thorough investigation."
But evidently Boehm does not expect that to happen. He says if the conflict of interest involved a Republican senator, an investigation would likely already be under way and the media would be having a field day. But because Feinstein is a Democrat, he believes there will be no investigation -- and he expects the media will continue to ignore the story.
Again?
Feinstein resigned from that subcommittee about seven times LAST week.
How bout resigning from congress?
Didn’t the MSM bury this allready!!!!...
Corruption is a San Francisco value.
Bump.
Democrats do talk about a culture of corruption...what they fail to state is that it is THEIR culture that is corrupted.
She set him up with China years ago and he made big bucks from her being a Senator.
She should resign, but she will get away with it and continue to undermine our Country just like all democrats. Well maybe except for Zell.
GSGOP: Don’t write off “Common Cause”. On ocassion, when they have regained their sanity and integrity, they have called for investigations of Democrats and liberals.
In fact, you should write to them and suggest that they do an investigation of Feinstein in the role of an outside, non-partisan organization.
It would be interesting to see what they say to you.
Keep us posted. Keep Freerepublic posted.
You may have hit on something important.
?Surely you jest!
They are far too busy looking for their spines and manhood.
Democrats don't ever actually resign for conflicts of interest, never, ever.
This REALLY MUST be a serious violation.
It’s the same committee, the story is just below the radar screen, but keeps bubbling up. I emailed both my senators about this last week. Letters to the editors may be one method, if enough people are outraged, I don’t see how they can ignore it.
bump
It’s only Graft if your a Republican like Cunningham. PravdABDNC will sweep this under the rug like the clintons.
