The state Senate leader on Thursday announced plans for an advisory ballot measure calling for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, hoping to prompt debate among presidential candidates campaigning in California.
The Vote Us Out of Iraq measure would appear on California's Feb. 5 presidential primary ballot and is believed to be the first such proposal for a statewide advisory vote in the nation.
We want every single candidate coming to California to square off on this issue, said Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata, D-Oakland.
The proposal would have to pass the Democrat-controlled Legislature and be signed by Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to make the ballot.

NOte: "The proposal would have to pass the Democrat-controlled Legislature and be signed by Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to make the ballot. "
People should be VERY glad that Arnold is governor and not Angelides.
Perata has been an embarassment to our state for many years — and he continues to out-do himself. He is good at climbing the radical leftist ladder in California and this is no exception.
Which all again goes to support the question. “What are the liberals good for in America?”

Perata said that like the Vietnam war, the Iraqi conflict has become a quagmire that is no longer supported by most Americans. He said the “deceit” of the Viet Nam war took a generation to recover from and he does not want to see the same thing happen as a result of Iraq.
Perata said he has sent letters to other states with early 2008 presidential primaries — including New York and New Jersey — in hopes of creating a “national referendum” on the war next February.
The proposal, which will almost certainly speed through the Democratically controlled Legislature, will present the Republican governor a variety of partisan problems at a time in which Schwarzenegger and the Democratic leaders have seemed to have found political equilibrium.
A spokesman for the governor’s office said they do not comment on pending legislation.
I wonder if he would be willing to put abortion and gay marriage on the ballot also?
Perata get it on the ballot so I can vote NO on it.
