The Family-Friendly Easter Bomb Hunt (WAPo Assists Moonbats Again) - DC Chapter To Counter 4/9/07
Washington Post - The Insurgents' Best Friend in the USA ^ | Friday, April 6, 2007 | Sue Anne Pressley Montes

Seven-year-old Alvin Mitchell worked intently yesterday on what looked to be a blue balloon wrapped around a tennis ball. It was a fake version of a cluster bomb, and the real thing, he pronounced, can "blow you up and kill you."

The fake bombs Alvin and a dozen other children were making at a peace workshop will be put to use Monday in Lafayette Square. As hundreds attend the White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn, a smaller group will gather at the park on the north side for what is being billed as a "family-friendly Easter cluster-bomb hunt."

*

"Obviously, we're trying to spoof a little bit what will be happening on the South Lawn," said Brian Hennessey of the Vineeta Foundation, a local human rights group founded in 1995 that is the lead sponsor of the cluster-bomb hunt. "We're not trying to hit kids over the head with this; we want them to have fun."

*

"This is supposed to be funny," he said about the hunt. "We're not trying to be confrontational. We're not going to be in anyone's face. People are welcome to reject what we say or think about it."

*

Other peace groups, such as Code Pink and the Coalition for Justice and Accountability, came onboard.

*

The event, which runs from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., the same hours as the White House Easter Egg Roll, will include a search for weapons of mass destruction for the adults.

*

A hulk of a large bomb will be filled with toy bombs, and a prize will be given to whoever guesses the number inside.

*The adults told the children they could write their names on the "bombs" and take them home after Monday's event.

Actually, cluster bombs are used primarily on runways to create craters to impair take-offs and to disable aircraft.

We need to bring back mandatory military service for all young men and women in the USA.

Sorry, Bro, but you are wrong on this one.
Ask any active-duty personnel and they will tell you a draft is very bad idea.
They only want someone next to them and behind them who WANTS to be there.
Re-instate the draft, and you really will see a charlie-foxtrot of the first order.
The draft was the over-riding issue during Viet Nam.
We do not need another one.
We have enough to deal with now.

Yes, and cluster bombs (bomblets) are also used with MLRS to disable tanks and artillery. When used against military personnel, the enemy army usually immediately surrenders and the war is ended. So they stop almost any kind of war machine or organization. You might call them the ultimate anti-war weapon!

I prefer the Daisy-cutter for personnel, though. Quick, thorough, and everything is sterilized.

Profound comments with which I whole heartedly agree, from someone self labeling as not particularly religious. I happened to be watching the Lawrence Welk Show on PBS a few minutes before reading your comments.

I commented, “a better age, the world according to Mr Welk”. We couldn’t go too far wrong using his show philosophy. A self regulated man who gave America what he saw as good for them. Not likely that he would be pro easterbomb hunt.

Second that -- from the wife of a Vietnam-era vet (they never shipped him overseas).

The draftees in his unit were more trouble than they were worth. Two of them they didn't even issue ammunition to.

Plus, the liberal moonbats all want a draft so they can get the cowardly and lazy college students on board for anti-draft riots. . . just like the LAST time.

No thanks. Let the warriors do their job.

It’s supposed to be bitter cold and cloudy Monday. I hope it snows on the Socialists parade. I’m going to laugh if it snows tomorrow. Better yet, I hope we have a blizzard tomorrow.

I’m off but I just can’t make this one. Too bad, though, cuz I have this bag of water balloons that look just like grenades. . . . Ya might be able to find them in dollar stores in your area! :-)

No sarcasm intended. That is what they were originally designed for.
Why would that be sarcastic?

That was my point precisely, which you got. My thinking was that cluster bombs, or bomblets were the ultimate anti-personnel weapons. They do not have sufficient explosive power to put holes in runways. They will decimate airplanes with thin structures, but are not effective against armored vehicles. In vietnam we did have some airplanes that carried WWII bombs that contained numerous fire producing clusters of the kind used against Japanese cities, and were great at area bombing at night, when the aim was not near as good as day time.

Comments based purely on memory, and not recent research.

MK-20 Rockeye
The MK-20 Rockeye is a free-fall, unguided cluster weapon designed to kill tanks and armored vehicles.
The system consists of a clamshell dispenser, a mechanical MK-339 timed fuze, and 247 dual-purpose armor-piercing shaped-charge bomblets.
The bomblet weighs 1.32 pounds and has a 0.4-pound shaped-charge warhead of high explosives, which produces up to 250,000 psi at the point of impact, allowing penetration of approximately 7.5 inches of armor.
Rockeye is most efficiently used against area targets requiring penetration to kill.
Fielded in 1968, the Rockeye dispenser is also used in the Gator air-delivered mine system.
During Desert Storm US Marines used the weapon extensively, dropping 15,828 of the 27,987 total Rockeyes against armor, artillery, and antipersonnel targets.
The remainder were dropped by Air Force (5,345) and Navy (6,814) aircraft.

If it will penetrate 7.5 inches of armor, I garontee it will put a hole in a concrete runway.

This link was posted over at the GOE forum:

http://www.vineeta.org/cancel

The text at the link reads:

This is a message to our listserv members as we can’t update or edit our website page without the webmaster (who’s Mon-Fri).

Sorry for this late notice but we’ve been contacted by the authorities that there are plans for a counter demonstration tomorrow and on their blogs (which they’ve been monitoring and taking seriously) some of these groups have stated that they’d like to use violence against us.

It’s lamentable that there’s a segment in our society that feel that they must deal with all their problems and disagreements with violence :-(

But because there are children involved we, in consultation with the authorities, have decided to cancel our event.

We regret this but can’t risk the security of the children. Hope you’ll understand and agree.

P.S. Please don’t release this information widely because we’d be happy for these groups to waste their time and resources with their counter demonstration tomorrow :-)

I'll believe the moonbats canceled when we get to the White House tomorrow and don't see them anywhere. I would not put it past them to try a misdirection ploy on us.

JUST TO BE CLEAR: WE ARE GO FOR MONDAY MORNING

Gee, I read the posts at WaPo’s website and out of three pages two were supportive and two were too incoherent to know what they were. A lot of posts from lefties not liking the idea of children making fake bombs. Hopefully the radical will just follow Neville Pelosi off the lunatic cliff.
