Family shares dream Scholarship to help students study veterinary science By John Finnerty The Daily Item March 31, 2007

MILTON — Carly Snyder had hoped to pursue a career in animal sciences, but abandoned that dream because she was daunted by the years of higher education required, her mother Alice Snyder said Friday.

The 20-year-old Milton woman was an animal lover who had an Appaloosa horse named Tizzy when she was younger.

And had owned both a chocolate Labrador retriever and a Rottweiler.

Now, almost two years after Ms. Snyder was slain in her home by an illegal alien who lived next door, her family is holding a fundraiser to support a scholarship program to help local students pursue the dream that Ms. Snyder could not.

Her family has established the Carly Snyder Memorial Scholarship Fund for a graduating student at Milton Area High School. The fund will benefit students in need of financial aid and pursuing a career in animal care or early childhood education. But first priority will be given to students interested in pursuing an education in animal care, because there are indications that there may be other young people, like Ms. Snyder, who might be dissuaded from pursuing veterinary science as a career because of the amount of education required, Mrs. Snyder said.

A Carly Snyder benefit is being held in the banquet hall at the Silver Moon complex off Route 15, north of Lewisburg. The yard sale, silent auction, gun raffle and bake sale started Thursday and continues until noon today.

"We want to keep Carly's memory going as long as we can, and we want to help other kids," Mrs. Snyder said.

While Mrs. Snyder, and her husband, Terry, declined to speak publicly at length about the issue of illegal immigration, which has become a matter of so much debate nationally, they noted that during court proceedings, prosecutors had argued that her killer had been involved in criminal activities in Latin America and suggested that he fled to the United States to get away from rival gangs.

"(Carly's slaying) was wrong and it could have been prevented" if Fredil O. Fuentes, 24, had not been allowed to get into the country and remain here, Mrs. Snyder said.

Mr. Fuentes pleaded guilty to an open count of homicide in the case. After a lengthy hearing in Northumberland County Court, President Judge Robert B. Sacavage ruled that the killing was first-degree murder and sentenced Mr. Fuentes to life in prison.

"We don't want people to forget what happened and people need to open their eyes and don't think it can happen here. Because we never thought something like this could happen to people like us, here in Milton," she said.

All of the items offered in the yard sale were donated, except for a table of toys and dolls that had once belonged to Ms. Snyder.

The banquet hall was provided to them without charge by the operators of the Silver Moon, a gesture the family greatly appreciates, Mr. Snyder said.

The family will not likely hold a fundraiser of this scale again, although members hope to continue raising funds for the scholarship, to keep it available as long as possible. And those wishing to do so, are asked to make donations by sending contributions to: The Carly Snyder Memorial Scholarship Fund, West Milton State Bank, PO Box 69, West Milton, PA 17866-0069.

I hold the President responsible for not doing everything within his power to control this scourge of vermin. The illegal invasion may have dropped the price of tomatoes by a few cents but has left us in many places with huge crime, gang, drunk driving problems and has cost us a fortune in spending. In some places in North Carolina illegals have ruined previously excellent schools too. And at the speed they are breeding citizen “anchor babies,” the US will be just another hispanic country in a hundred years.

It won’t take anywhere near that long, with the active and insistent collusion of that large segment of the U. S. electorate and so-called intelligentsia that favors open borders, multi-lingualism, multi-culturalism, and all the rest of whatever will serve to destroy the cultural fabric of the U.S.A.

Just doing killings that most Americans refuse to do... I'm convinced the GOP lost elections bigtime last Nov. for failure to address border security.

I like the “gun raffle” part.
