Elizabeth Edwards: scared of "rabid, rabid Republican" neighbor

MIKE BAKER Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. - Elizabeth Edwards says she is scared of the "rabid, rabid Republican" who owns property across the street from her Orange County home - and she doesn't want her kids going near the gun-toting neighbor.

Edwards, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, particularly recalls the time neighbor Monty Johnson brought out a gun while chasing workers investigating a right of way off his property. The Edwards family has yet to meet Johnson in person.

"I wouldn't be nice to him anyway," Edwards said in an interview. "I don't want my kids anywhere near some guy who when he doesn't like somebody, the first thing he does is pull a gun out. It scares the business out of me."

Across the street? From the looks of their homestead, I’d say it was across the country.

I think you’re probably correct about there being more gun-toting Republicans around Ms. Elizabeth than she might know.

What’s really scary is having Dems and Libs in power, and aspiring to it, who exhibit more angst about citizens of this country having firearms for self-defense than they do about terrorists and terrorist nations who would use any means to destroy us. Amazing to me that they want to cozy-up and use diplomacy to become friends with proven, cold-blooded enemies, yet reject, with vitriolic viciousness, every attempt to work together with an opposing political party in their own country for the betterment of the country. That lack of logic and lust for power is a truly dangerous, and scary, combination.

That’s only for those who actually read the Good Book and put it to practice rather than use it for personal, or political, expedience and photo ops. Those types usually think the contents only apply to other folks, and not themselves.

Hmmmmm....so there are no “gun toting” guards guarding the Edward’s family while on the stump....or at home.....I find THAT hard to believe.

The new Edwards manse does include a full suite for his hoped for Secret Service team, whether it's been occupied yet is anyone's guess.

My brotherinlaw was having problems with neighborhood kids. His cousin came to visit one day - saw the problem - went out and told the kids that his cousin was a “bunker buster” in the war and sometimes he has flashbacks and goes kinda nuts. The little vandals never came close to his place again.

"Compared to John Edwards, Giuliani is freakin Ronald Reagan/Abe Lincoln."

Beleive me, if it came to contest between Guiliani and the Beast, the magic negro, or sissy boy John Edwards, I would low crawl naked over a mile of broken glass to pull the lever for Guiliani. But I still hope the pubs nominate a more conservative candidate. If they do, I'd make it two miles.

I had a neighbor who when he didn’t like something would call the police (usually he just didn’t like cars parked on the street). He was cranky and never smiled. I started waving at him and my children did the same. Eventually, he started to wave back and we would talk. The neighbors looked confused when they saw me talking to him, since he was “mean” and “not a nice person” (sounds redundant, but I was quoting different people). His house is up for sale now. Last time I saw him he was very complimentary and hugged me goodbye. Maybe Elizabeth Edwards should learn sometimes being nice to someone can make them nice to you.

I feel really really bad for the Edwards living right next to their neighbor on a 102 acre estate.

Which is Edwards’s house. The green roof McMansion? Or the barn too.

102 acres!

She (Elizabeth Edwards) said that there is nothing “grandiose” about the house

Elizabeth Edwards said they purchased 102 acres — valued for tax purposes at $1.1 million — in 2003 after spotting it while searching the Internet.

The main living section of the house is 10,778 square feet and has a tax value of $3.1 million, according to tax records. It has five bedrooms, 6 1/2 baths and a library. A second wing of the house is connected by a heated enclosed walkway, valued at $192,664, that is lined with family and political photographs. The second wing, called “The Barn” by the family, has 6,336 square feet and includes a lounge and offices that are 70 percent complete. It has a current tax value of $567,403. It also has a basketball court, which is 60 percent complete and valued at $300,960; a racquetball court, 70 percent complete and valued at $41,000; and a pool, according to tax records.

Oh yeah, we all have basketball courts dont cha know!
