Imus And Andy

Political Correctness: Former Virginia Sen. George Allen lost his seat and a chance at the presidency for a racially insensitive remark. Is a two-week suspension for Don Imus enough? It depends on whose ox is gored.

We won't repeat what the "Imus in the Morning" host said about Rutgers' women's basketball team. Unlike the dust-up over [Joe Biden]'s observation that Sen. Barack Obama was "articulate," or Newt Gingrich's advocacy of English immersion, it was genuinely offensive and deserved condemnation.

What struck us was that his most vocal accuser, the Rev. Al Sharpton, on whose show Imus begged forgiveness, is hardly the poster child for racial sensitivity. Big Al rose to fame back in 1987 by charging that New York prosecutor Steve Pagones "on 33 separate occasions" had "kidnapped, raped and abused" Tawana Brawley.

What Imus SHOULD have done is gone on Sharpton’s show, given a very brief mea culpa then asked “Al, if the words I used were so offensive, tell us all when you and Jesse Jackson will begin speaking out forcefully AGAINST the woman demeaning, gratuitous racial epithet hurling, education-denigrating, drug-using, death-dealing, gang-banging hip-hip culture in the way Bill Cosby has?”

Then Imus should have walked out, leaving that one hanging there around Sharpton’s neck like the stinking albatross it is.

Now that sponsors have spoken - I’m thinking Imus is hoping to get fired in such a way as to trigger his severance/parachute clauses. I couldn’t care less what happens to him.

Great idea and it’s NOT too late for Imus to do that.

Too bad he’s a liberal slime ball and would rather lose his job or die before doing anything to harm his team.

Imus is the perfect example of the school yard bully, when he gets his nose bloodied, starts crying and running home to momma!

His groveling is almost worst than his initial remarks.

...woman demeaning, gratuitous racial epithet hurling, education-denigrating, drug-using, death-dealing, gang-banging hip-hip culture...

I saw Whoopi Goldberg on TV (for about 10 seconds) saying this was completely different because Imus' comment was directed at specific people. How silly is that?

I saw that too, and agree it is silly. She struck me as articulate and thoughtful, but somehow reaches the conclusion that the SAME WORDS, depending upon who utters them, are either acceptable or not. That is just Hollyweird.

I look for Imus to tell NBC to put their show where the sun don’t shine, and move over to satellite like Howard Stern did. Nothing is better for one’s carreer than a little free publicity, and let’s face it, a lot of people tune in to Don Imus.

Al’s too savvy to actually solve a problem. If he and Jesse and their ilk cannot play the race card all the time, they’re out of business. Have you noticed how Al’s managed to keep Jesse in a low-profile position on this one? I’ll be Jesse is just fuming about it. They could care less about “their people”. It’s all about “face time” for themselves.

Those “lyrics” serve to prove my assertion that “rap music” is the ultimate oxymoron and why I refer to it as “C-rap.”

It’s not even an art form. Our parents who complained about the rock music of the 50s and 60s should consider how far this decomposition has gone.

Whoopi’s own production company is named “One Ho Productions”. She’s scarred herself for life.

BTW, I’d be curious to check out the team member’s individual IPODs.

I think they would have worked about as well as a black DJ going on a program and complaining “Why don’t you white people do something about the adultery in Country music?”.
