former Kmart employee was arrested and accused of putting rat poison in packages of ground beef at one of its stores last week, authorities said. Officials said nobody bought the three packages of tainted meat.Karen Wyndham, 45, of Cottageville, S.C., was charged with tampering with consumer products, according to the FBI. She was arrested Monday and released on a personal recognizance bond after appearing in court.

The Kmart where Wyndham worked took all packaged meat off its shelves after an employee conducting a routine inspection found that three packages had been tampered with, The Post and Courier of Charleston reported in Tuesday's newspapers.

As if anyone would notice rat poison in a KMart hamburger. It would probably make it taste better and I guess that would be thefirst warning that something was wrong.

A routine inspection of meat in the case? Something doesn’t sound right. Unless these were pillow pack,c02 grinds and she just pushed the pellets in through the poly wrapping.

Given the court's absurd response to this crime, I guess the company found it necessary to state the obvious.

It's funny that you attributed that "statement of the obvious" to the company... whereas I would have attributed it to the reporter who would have asked the obvious question, "Mr. Company Spokesman, is the poisoner still an employee of your store?"... and then felt compelled to report that obvious.

Sadly, both are a statement on how things are not as obvious as they should be in today's messed up society, that the question had to be asked at all, and that it needed to be reported on. To rational people, IT'S OBVIOUS.

PS: Humans are messed up. A dog would never intentionally poison anyone. :-)

Wyndham was upset about Kmart management’s “abuse” of employees.

So the natural response is to kill some innocent shoppers?

Lady, if you don't like the job you were hired to do, THEN QUIT !

I hope this sharp employee gets a serious bonus. He or she saved lives *and* her employer's reputation.

It's quite possible too, that this employee was suspicious of the activities of the perp, and paid a little extra attention. That's a good thing, too. Ordinary people can be heroes sometimes.

I don’t know what the law is, but this category of crime should require life in prison without parole.

Wyndham had argued with her supervisor that morning because he told her to help hang about 2,700 sale tags in the food market area, according to the FBI agent’s affidavit. Wyndham usually only had to hang tags in the dairy area where she worked.

Good grief... this woman got *murderously* deranged just for being asked to do this little task? And just because it was "outside her area"??

Wow... she needs to be put away. She's nuts, and she's going to go nonlinear again someplace, sometime, and probably soon.
