I still think the joke was taken out of context as a reference to the 1988 Spike Lee movie 'School Daze' (Wanna-bees vs. Jiggaboos dance off number) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlxI3-8BVKQ

It's almost bordering on laughable how out of touch Jackson and Sharpton are, or maybe they are purposely so...

I’m such a film nerd that I got that reference. I think the other problem with Imus’ remarks is that they just weren’t that witty or amusing. I remember one time Howard Stern had a Jeopardy parody contest to determine who was “really smarter” blacks or whites. THe white contestant had an Ivy League degree and the black contestant was a homeless bum. But all the questions were about street knowledge type stuff like dope and pimping so the black guy won easily. It was racially offensive as hell, but at least it was funny. Imus is just a mumbling drug addict.

I had never seen School Daze before (made by Spike Lee no less).

This clip changes the meaning of the jogaboos vs. the wannabes comment made on Imus show. It’s a cultural reference.
