Imus was wrong, and he's a schmuck. He has a long pattern of being a schmuck. There are times when the enemy of our enemy is our friend, and we have to choose one devil to defeat another, like joining forces with Stalin to stop Hitler -- but this is not one of those times. Denying Sharpton a rhetorical victory isn't worth defending Imus.

If this was truly a "rhetorical victory," as you put it, the consequences for Imus and, more importantly, talk radio itself, wouldn't have risen to this degree of toxicity. This is much more than a "rhetorical victory" and Sharpton knows it and will persist accordingly in the future.
