*Rell Calls Proposal 'Unconscionable'

Igniting a philosophical debate over tax equity, the legislature's Democratic majority released a revised tax-and-spending plan this afternoon that Democrats say would cut the income tax for 88 percent of taxpayers -- and sharply increase taxes on a minority of higher wage earners.

In their first official response to Gov. M. Jodi Rell's budget, Democrats say they are seeking to spend $650 million more than Rell over the next two years, further bursting through the state-mandated spending cap.

Rell denounced the Democrats' tax policy and spending increase as "unconscionable," setting the stage for difficult negotiations before the legislative session adjourns June 6.

Democrats hold veto-proof margins in both chambers, but the spending cap gives the Republican governor additional leverage: The cap cannot be exceeded without her consent.

They do realize a good portion of those high wage workers are employed in New York city?

They’ll pack their bags to NY or NJ...not that either state is a whole lot better.

Saw the article on Friday... More good news Sat., DEMS want to tax all Internet sales and repeal $50 exemption on clothes. Great huh?? So called “rich” can move out but poor working stiffs cannot pull up stakes that easily. They may have to when the few jobs left disappear.. CT., folks are sheep..where’s the outrage?? These tax increase proposals may my head spin!! Don’t DEMS understand that these tax increases will strangle the CT., economy and tax revenues will decrease?? GRRRR...
