Exactly right. For Sharpton and Jackson and the NOW gang, this was spring training. Imus was just a warmup. Now they'll go after actual conservatives with their letter-writing and boycott campaigns.
Imus wasn't a conservative, but he wasn't a liberal, either. He was a flip-flopping entertainer guided by ratings and pandering principles more than ideology.

So did a lot of other people. His ratings have been declining steadily. This probably played a role in his termination.
That was the first thing I noticed when I watched Hardball.
So did the number of radio stations that carried him. I remember back when MSNBC first came to air in 1996, they put Imus In The Morning on their lineup a month or so later, and in a short amount of time, Imus had close to 200 radio stations.

The lesson learned here is that you can NEVER, EVER, count on a Washington Liberal when times get tough.

Incidently, I listened to the first half hour of his Thursday morning show, and the first thing I heard was Imus lighting into MSNBC and CBS about "abject hypocrisy", which ironically was a soundbyte FOX News used after the hammer fell on Imus.
Liberals are just cowards on every front. They can’t even bring themselves to admit Imus is a flaming liberal. They only have the courage to stand with you when you are winning, but cut and run at the first sign of trouble. It doesn’t matter if it’s Imus or the US Military. That's what really sucks. He got rolled by two of the best examples of racism in America.
