” A broken femur often means death within minutes from blood loss.”
I’m not a Dr. but do bones carry blood? I thought that was the job of arteries and veins.

a broken femur can cause significant blood loss although death is rare. The bone does not carry a lot of blood, but is in very close proximity to some large (femoral artery and vein) blood vessels that can be lacerated by jagged bone edges.

The femur is one of the long bones that makes red blood cells.

I think the point is if you manage to break the biggest bone in your body the arteries and veins didn’t do so well either!
