Ancestor veneration is an Oriental custom and is often overdone, but to people who want to say that only Yankees and Yankee transplants disdain the CSA, I've got the genealogical status of a true son of Dixie and I say Lincoln and the North was RIGHT.
lincoln was a TYRANT who, had he lived to finish his term(s) as POTUS, would have been "the American Mussolini".
lincoln would have NEVER given up the power he had seized (in violation of the Constitution), after the war.

No, they only had to read the #1 paper in the area, the southern Knoxville Whig, where the editor rightly stated that the honest working people of the South should not be hewers of wood and drawers of water for the slave aristocracy and their confederacy.

1. did NOT arrest & imprison reporters/editors (by the HUNDREDS), without charges/warrant/crime/trial,
2. allowed ANTI-CSA newspapers to continue publishing,
3. allowed dissent, as long as it wasn't outright TREASON &
4. was RESPECTFUL of religious/ethical minority opinions. (in dixie, Amish, Mennonites, Quakers, Roman Catholics & Jews were NOT discriminated against OR targeted for ABUSE, as they were in the NORTH.)
