Gunman on Campus; Stay inside your building, away from windows; Shooting incident at West Ambler Johnston Hall
(Excerpt) Read more at vtnews.vt.edu ...
I think you’re quite right.
Government Shrinker . . . guess that’s not a psychiatrist role you’re talking about? LOL.
Terrorist mole??
Pray for W and Va Tech
In one of the on-line news phone interviews with one of the wounded, one of the surviving witnesses said the shooter opened the classroom door, emptied the magazine, and then slammed the door.
In another, he reportedly lined his victims up in a row, then went down the line executing them.
I'm leanin' towards the Jihadist Scenario more and more.....
Whatever it was, slack could have fixed it.
I don't think it is weird at all. If he isn't a criminal, why would he be fingerprinted? At least in my state, you don't get fingerprinted at birth and you don't get fingerprinted when you go to school.
My whole life, I was never fingerprinted until I took the bar exam. I don't think it's unusual at all for a person not to have fingerprints on file with the government. Why would they? Why would you want that?
The post I was replying to was the first time I had heard anything about a vest. This could be a case of runaway speculation and gossip.
Doesn't compute. If you can show me Uda and Qusay's bloodied faces...show me this guy's.
“Gun Nut” faction? That certainly shows where YOU stand. What about “Speech Nuts”? “Assembly Nuts”? Why not just say “Constitutional Rights Nuts”? Or is it only “Nuts” when it deals with guns?
those families may just shut VT down financally with negligence lawsuits
that’s the first question.
answer: “the first shooting was an isolated incident”.
how did they know?
Well, a lot of recent college grads still get drunk and party. Maybe we shouldn’t let people own guns, or vote, or drive cars, or own property, until they’re 30. They should be settled by then, right?
The point is, if we’ve decided that X is the age of adulthood in our society, all rights of adulthood should be granted at that age. Otherwise you’ve just created a bunch of second class citizens. And as long as you want people that age to volunteer for the armed services and defend your freedoms, don’t try to take theirs away.
Stricter gun laws could not have prevented this tragedy - criminals always get their hands on weapons. Always. More people carrying guns might have.
Very slow FR.
2 dead in first shooting.
31 dead in second shooting.
no ID on shooter.
List of dead not released until next of kin notified.
Putting a school the size of Virginia Tech into “lockdown” isn’t that easy. 25,000+ students, thousands of which are commuting in from off-campus, a couple of hundred buildings, and easy wide-open access from dozens of points around Blacksburg. How do you lock that down? I went to a school that was considerably smaller (James Madison University, up the road from VT in Harrisonburg) and even so, 20 years ago when I was there, we had over 10,000 students, 100 buildings, a couple of dozen parking lots, maybe eight full-time campus cops, and absolutely no facility to lock anything down.
If he shot the two people in West AJ at 7:15, he could probably get out of the dorm and fade into the woodwork with ease. Tech’s big, and crowded. And if nobody knows who this guy is now, seven hours after the fact, there’s no way anybody knew to look for him earlier this morning when he walked into Norris Hall and started shooting.

Press conference from the university right now.
“Thirty-one people dead, including the gunman, at the second shooting site...no identity yet on the gunman, he carried no ID...attempting to ascertain his identity...investigation continuing on whether there was any connection between the first and second shootings...”
'Twas a memorable night for me, too ... waiting it out under a bed in Huntsville, AL.
Not to mention the recent bomb threats (the most recent being about 72 hours ago). You'd think they'd have been more on their toes.
Haven’t read the details yet. Rush was saying that the guy was “looking for his girlfriend” or some such thing. And that he lined them up and shot them...? Is that true?
Or was that all speculation?
Scares me too.
I was watching a show on OKC just yesterday and was dreading the 19th.
You must be joking. What a silly statement.
CYA already at this newsconference.
On one phone interview on Fox News (IIRC) a student who had been shot by the guy said that the guy was asian, wore a red cap and a black leather jacket. No mention of a vest...
Fingerprints, how bout it?
2 separate event scenario: I'm not buying it.
There had to be dozens of witness survivors, and other witnesses to the events here. No ID yet would clearly suggest the shooter was not known to the campus or the victims. Otherwise it would seem his ID would have been leaked/reported.
I've heard initial reports he was wearing body armor, and possibly some kind of hat. His identity could have been somewhat obscured, so who knows. Shooter had no ID on him according to current news conference. (Not surprising)
Question about why no lock down after first shooting. Campus police guy says they thought it was isolated to the one building.
President says at 7:30 people were already on their way to classes, becaue a majority of students live off campus.
Reporter says first e-mail came at 9:22.
the perp probably left campus to reload after the first shooting
The shooter is probalby Muslim , but the news won’t tell you that ....
I'm leanin' towards the Jihadist Scenario more and more.....
Maybe, not necessarily. Laz, would you happen to know when William Morva's birthday was?
This interview...what a joke. Someone should have to answer for this...outside of the shooter. They fumbled the ball.
She may be one of the dead, if in fact this is even true... that he had a girlfriend ... see, I saw another post that said the cops were having a hard time IDing him... therefore, it is more possible that he is an outsider, because SOMEone would chip in to tell the police who he was.
CYA already at this newsconference.
BIGTIME!
Oh, FGS, enough of that talk; people are dead and you all can’t wait to blame somebody.
You’re as bad as the press.
Now they’re saying a 2nd shooter might be off campus but they are not looking for him. Per cops
Police and president cannot say whether the shooter was a student or not.
press room sounds exasperated at the gross incompetence of these officials
They know they have a shooter dead in Norris Hall. They don't know for sure if the two incidents were connected.
(That's what was bothering me, if they know they had a domestic "situation" this morning......then they HAVE to know the ID of the shooter)

Thanks to Free Republic for being able to provide high-intensity interactive coverage of important events. It is one of two sites I depend on for information under those circumstances and it is about to be the only one. The other is (was?) Little Green Footballs but it has overloaded and gone south today, something it does literally every day lately and especially when the hits start coming in. It is therefore worthless for keeping up with any kind of fast-developing news.
Speech and assembly have been shown to have limits. So too should gun ownership. I am bothered by the fact that the Constitution specifically mentions militia in connection with bearing arms. Also, I am bothered by the belief that all types of arms are acceptable.
Are all college students to be allowed to concealed carry? Or only the “orthodox, right-thinking” ones? that is what disturbs me. I wouldn’t be surprised if the litmus test for concealed carry has to do with ideology.
The interview HAS been replayed. Why don't you try turning off Fox and turning on MSNBC?
Trey Perkins was the second student interviewed by MSNBC. He helped the first student, Derrick O'Dell, barricade the classroom at Norris Hall before the shooter tried to reenter. The shooter then shot through the door. O'Dell was shot in the arm. In his interview, he did identify the shooter as a college aged Asian male wearing a maroon cap and a black leather jacket.
You can hear the interview with O'Dell here:

This link was provided way up thread. More than three hours ago, I gave the details from this interview at post 960-something.
You're right .. this isn't a small high school campus
I'm really leaning towards the probability of a second shooter.
That was one smart girl to feign death.
You get fingerprinted when you apply for a CCW, to get a security clearance, to get bonded, when you are arrested, etc.
No, the gunman is at fault. His family and friends are at fault.
WHAT WAS THE GUNMAN’S DESCRIPTION???? What is wrong with these people?
Quote “press room sounds exasperated at the gross incompetence of these officials”
I would agree with that after hearing some of the answers coming from these guys.
I just heard Katie. I will give her credit, she asked an intelligent and non-accusatory question.
“Lady on FNC is already blaming V Tech.”
Stepfather of a Columbine student victim said that if VTech had security personnel present, this would not have happened. I wonder if he knows that a university isn’t the size of a high school. Oh dear, a reporter just asked the same question during the ongoing news conference at VTech.
