Gunman on Campus; Stay inside your building, away from windows; Shooting incident at West Ambler Johnston Hall

A. I do not think so.
Hmmm.
The gun nut faction?
= = =
A comment like that kind of reminds me of some city slicker Eastern idiot elite type wandering into Prescott AZ say a hundred years ago . . . and complaining about all the guns, horses and cowboy hats around.
I think there are wiser things to do. Especially if one doesn’t want rock salt in one’s rear.
And, in terms of related issues . . . keeping citizens free enough to say such silly things tends to be the responsibility of folks alert, wise, courageous and diligent enough to have arms and be prepared to use them.
Call us gun nuts, if you insist. But I’m sure there are safer forums to do it on.
We just don’t take kindly to such talk around here.
police actively working the investigation to determine whether the shootings are related
<< The post I was replying to was the first time I had heard anything about a vest. This could be a case of runaway speculation and gossip. >>
FoxNews earlier was discussing a witness description of the perp as wearing a vest to which he had attached his additional clips.
The FoxNews anchor then mischaracterized that description as saying the perp was wearing “bandoliers” of ammunition. Also, it was never described per se as a “bulletproof”-type vest.
That's a ridiculous comment. The shooter is at fault and no one the hell else! Have you ever been to VA Tech? It's the size of a good sized town! You don't lock down your town every time someone gets shot, do you?
Doors were chained from the inside.
He found out when his photo was on the front page of the newspaper.
Neil Cavuto just gasped.
LOL! Too true.
Rudy Guiliani is that you or one of your supporters?
very true, doesn’t add up.
Your 541. Cops saying no arrests. I saw the guy on all fours in custody. Is he now non-existent?
He was an overzealous reporter who was pressing for answers at the time of this whole ordeal. He is not the perp.
Hmmmm. So the total is 33?
Curious puzzle pieces. Very curious.
Doors in Norris Hall chained from inside, but officer doesn’t know if they were already chained before the incident.
Sorry I missed your post. Thanks for the information.
I’ve always been impressed with your perspicacity, Laz. If you’re right, I’ll tell everyone I agreed with you before it was cool :-).
Holy s**t.
If there might be a 2nd shooter, they'd BETTER F***ING WELL BE LOOKING FOR HIM!
And they want me to give up my guns so I can be protected by THIS???!?
I read somewhere in this thread that the guy pictured was being detained while they determined his identity; he turned out to be a student reporter and was released. FWIW.
Perhaps I didn’t make myself clear. If a campus is armed, I think there is more likelihood of shootings erupting—not as large scale as this (because the offenders would die in the cross-fire), but more prevalent.
Someone posted earlier that he was a reporter for the campus newspaper, and the police were just trying to get him away from the shooting scene.
That seems a bit ridiculous to me.
Maybe they have 2 vastly different weapons and ammo being used at the different sites.
I guess it is possible that the two are totally unrelated. Could be just a sad coincidence. One guy kills his girlfriend, then another guy, mad about who knows what, has made his way to the Engineering Dept. and starts killing folks.
I agree 100% !
I saw that guy being handcuffed, too. If he wasn’t arrested, they owe it to us to explain what we saw.
I honestly wouldn’t put too much stock in bomb threats on a college campus. I went to a college where we were evacuated from our dorm due to bomb threats every freaking weekend.
About locking down a college campus, I’m a college prof and I have to say that locking down a college campus - unless it’s a city campus all in one building — is impossible.
But that long a silence . . . still sounds . . . at least irresponsible or something.
Blood-sucking lawyers are circling already.
Pardon me for jumping in here, but the guy looks like he is living the worst day of his life. There are almost THREE DOZEN people dead and that is probably a HELL OF A LOT more concerning to these officials than keeping their jobs!
I need a little humor in all this. Thanks
I wouldn’t doubt that we’ll discover some things could have been done better, BUT your point is excellent. There’s absolutely no way in you-know-what the campus could be “locked down” or even evacuated. 2,600 acres, hundreds of buildings, most students not even living in dorms, thousands and thousands of staff and faculty, and hundreds or thousands at any given moment not online or in a dorm room. Even if you tried a “lockdown,” it would take hours.
Wasn’t Chelsea only a few blocks away?
Will update anything of interest.
Enjoy the BBQ.
I have CCW in two states, Indiana and Virginia. I remember that I was fingerprinted for my license in Indiana, but I really don’t recall for Virginia.
Regardless, it’s still not unusual for this fellow not to have had fingerprints on file. A normal, law abiding citizen wouldn’t really have any reason to have been fingerprinted.
I’m with you on this one.
Jesus they are just now getting to telling people what number to call to check on their kids.
If this was Morva, why was’nt he behind bars? This happened all the time in Florida w/early release.
Isn't it amazing??!!
Was Katie Couric was the one shouting ‘2nd shooter!’ Now she’s asking to outline the lockdown policy
You can cancel classes for this stuff, it is done all the time. Something doesn’t add up.
the ballistics will tell them that pretty quickly.
Chewed through the straps again, Mr. Robertson?
“Q. Is one of the deceased from that first shooting the shooter’s girlfriend?
A. I do not think so.
Hmmm.”
I heard that. If so, then the story I got is wrong. Not that I’m surprised considering.
OMG. She asked if they have a policy for determining whether to lock the campus down and they couldn’t answer! Where did the university find these people, the Sears catalog?
And they want me to give up my guns so I can be protected by THIS???!?
Yes they do .... now, report to rehab for going against the PC flow.
I think he was a guy from the college paper that the cops wanted out of the area ASAP.
I meant the comments made early on after the incident that the two shootings were not related.
this is a fwd from an EMT : 26.2 : 4/16/07 3:43 PM
that is friends with a VT alum buddy of mine: “Guys,
Yes, I responded to assist with the shootings. Thanks to an overwhelming number of other responders, I didn’t treat any of the patients. However, I think I have a clearer version of the story than what has been released on the news. I’m not sure on the total body count though. While the news is currently reporting 22, I’ve heard as many as 40. As far as those injured, I have no idea. I do know that Montgomery Regional and NRV had to go on diversion because they were overwhelmed by numbers of patients.
Approximately 7 of the more critical patients were transported to Roanoke Memorial and Lewis-Gale. The shooter is among those dead. To the best of my understanding (from first-hand accounts) this all started with an ex-boyfriend finding his girlfriend in bed with another guy. He then shot them, killing the guy immediately and the girl died at RMH. The shooter then went to Norris hall and entered a classroom opening fire.
This does hit close to home on a number of levels. Everything from the fact that we all lived in that dorm to classes that we took in Norris Hall. It’s still hard for me to believe that something so tragic occured. It makes last August’s events with Morva look like child’s-play.”
That was in May.
