J. Neil Schulman's Stopping Power Now a Free Download in response to Virginia Tech Shootings

Today, April 16th, the day of the Virginia Tech massacre, is my birthday. Every year for the rest of my life, I am going to be reminded on my birthday that my attempt to alert the American people to the lethal dangers of victim disarmament did not succeed in preventing this act of criminal terrorism.
My 1994 book, Stopping Power: Why 70 Million Americans Own Guns, makes the point -- through analysis of history, criminology, statistics, and dramatic examples -- that "Gun control increases violent crime by disarming helpless victims and shifting the balance of power to the illegally armed criminal or terrorist."
Obviously not enough people have gotten that message or there would not be in place a federal "Gun-Free-School-Zone" law prohibiting the carrying of concealed handguns by those citizens of the State of Virginia -- faculty, administrators, and graduate students -- who hold or could have applied for a Virginia license to carry.
This can not be permitted to continue. This ends today.
We are at war with criminals and terrorists, and the victims must be allowed the means to defend the innocent and decent among us from the guilty and indecent among us.
As of today -- as a Hobbit-like birthday present -- I am making downloads of the PDF edition of Stopping Power a free download.
Click on the book cover to download and read the book for free.

I read your Self Control, Not Gun Control about a decade ago and it was a pretty good read. Thanks for the free download.

Nowadays (for the past few years, in fact) "banglist" is added in the keyword section and accessed on the top of the FR browse page.
(I just added it to keywords).

Great idea. An unarmed citizen and an armed criminal is bad thing. An armed government and an unarmed populace is against the concept of the founding fathers.

We shall see a continued barrage of anti gun sentiments yet again, and no one will provide the means for those in our public and private institutions that could/should be able to carry guns to do so. This whole scenario could have been different if some teacher for instance burst into the room(s) and nailed the bastard before he could kill so many innocent people.
To: J. Neil Schulman
Thanks Mr. Schulman.
By the way, carrying a concealed handgun (with CHP) is not illegal on a university campus in Virginia. The administration of Virginia Tech utilized administrative regulations to ban guns. So, faculty members could be fired, students expelled. But it is still (technically) legal to carry a gun.
Virginia Tech had taken administrative action about two years ago against a student who was lawfully carrying a concealed handgun. As a result, VCDL pushed for legislation to disallow state universities from taking administrative sanctions. The legislation failed twice in committee. In response, a Virginia Tech talking head noted his happiness that the legislation had failed.
Sorry you had to have this happen on your birthday. Happy birthday and many more.

As of today, the campus is "gun free" from what I've heard due to legislation that passed.
Some idiot reporter was calling for "gun crimes" and lack of "legislation".
As of now we know that every victim was law abiding and had no weapons to protect or defend themselves.
Oh well, so it goes.

Thank you for the free book. Twenty-five years ago, I spent many hours in Norris Hall learning engineering. The day has been a shock to me even though I have little real, ongoing connection to the school. I'm glad to see people fighting the liberals' tendency to use these events to take our freedoms and make us more vulnerable to future attacks.

In Pennsylvania we are constantly fighting the anti’s. And the city where the founders created our constitution is under attack and being run by corrupt politicians. They believe gun control will lower Philadelphia’s homicide rate. So misguided.

My first thoughts, too. Peaceable citizens sleep soundly abed at night because the goons are afraid they might have an automatic in the nightstand. The mere presence of armed citizens protects the unarmed.
