Posted on 04/16/2007 4:25:22 PM PDT by J. Neil Schulman
Today, April 16th, the day of the Virginia Tech massacre, is my birthday.
Every year for the rest of my life, I am going to be reminded on my birthday that my attempt to alert the American people to the lethal dangers of victim disarmament did not succeed in preventing this act of criminal terrorism.
My 1994 book, Stopping Power: Why 70 Million Americans Own Guns, makes the point -- through analysis of history, criminology, statistics, and dramatic examples -- that "Gun control increases violent crime by disarming helpless victims and shifting the balance of power to the illegally armed criminal or terrorist."
Obviously not enough people have gotten that message or there would not be in place a federal "Gun-Free-School-Zone" law prohibiting the carrying of concealed handguns by those citizens of the State of Virginia -- faculty, administrators, and graduate students -- who hold or could have applied for a Virginia license to carry.
This can not be permitted to continue. This ends today.
We are at war with criminals and terrorists, and the victims must be allowed the means to defend the innocent and decent among us from the guilty and indecent among us.
As of today -- as a Hobbit-like birthday present -- I am making downloads of the PDF edition of Stopping Power a free download.
Click on the book cover to download and read the book for free.

J. Neil Schulman,
The World Wide Web Gun Defense Clock
“Gun control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.” L. Neil Smith
. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
. A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
ping. Do you know who runs the banglist! and would you ping them please, if you do?
Thank you Neil.
May your future birthdays be happy ones.
Thanks for the freebie.
(I just added it to keywords).
“added it to keywords”
Thank you, though I imagine a lot of traffic today for that keyword. :(
Thank you for the book. I’ll make sure all my kids read it as well.
Which novel was that from? (dammit. I should know. Probability Broach?)
Great idea. An unarmed citizen and an armed criminal is bad thing. An armed government and an unarmed populace is against the concept of the founding fathers.
Thank you Neil, I will do my best to get this out to others.
I very much appreciate this. I downloaded your book and I agree completely with your opening statements. Thank you!
Thanks for the ping! Ordering it from Amazon. I downloaded it but want the printed version too.
Thank you for helping save innocent Americans from criminals.
