Why in the world would you suspend?

Maybe Fred Thompson will run, and maybe he will win, I do not know for certain

Wait, you said he was a shill for McCain and wouldn't run. Are you backing down?

“I think due to the Virginia Tech shootings. Perhaps the thought is to set politics aside for a few days.”

Perhaps. I’m not definite on this. You can take a clue from what is going on the next few days besides this tragedy. We can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Well, I sincerely don’t want to offend anyone who feels the pings may not be appropriate for a few days. I’ll accomodate anyone either way. If you want the pings to continue, I’ll set up a separate list for those who opt on.

"It's been suggested I suspend the FRed Pings for a while."

Why? They're invaluable. Please don't.

I did not say he was a shill for McCain. I said he was a shill for himself. He is leveraging his political capital to its maximum advantage by positioning himself for Veep or SCOTUS, whoever turns out to be the nominee. Yes, I still hold to that.

Others are claiming he is a shill for McCain, but I do not think so.

He is obviously trying to get his numbers up with more and more appearances, but if they do not move, he will not run. So long as he hovers at 10-15 percent he will not risk it. That is my prediction.

"I think due to the Virginia Tech shootings. Perhaps the thought is to set politics aside for a few days."

I encountered your answer after posing my "why?" question.

Look, some tragedy is preventable. Electing folks like Thompson and Hunter is the cure for this kind of tragedy. To suspend the FRed ping list isn't helping anything.

I’m good either way, I enjoy getting the pings because I don’t have a lot of ‘lurking’ time to dig out all the Run, Fred, Run! posts! :-)

Thanks for the time and trouble you’ve put into getting out the pings, JB! :-)

You’re describing Thomas Jeffeson’s actions prior to running for office. He hated office, and did out of duty...and only when people begged him on running, did he.

In those days, that is the way they ran. But if you think Jefferson wasn't working like crazy behind the scenes, then you are very mistaken. There was quite a fight with Aaron Burr, and Jefferson was politically ruthless in that fight.

This method of pretending to be disinterested in the presidency lasted all the way through the 19th century. Lincoln did not even attend the Republican convention of 1860.

In the modern era, we want to see our candidates out there working hard.

Also, today's conservatives have more in common with yesterday's Democrats, and vice-versa. I agree that Jefferson was one of the best presidents in history. Why the liberals still claim him, I have not a clue.

Have you noticed the silence on the Dems side concerning FT? I really believe he frightens them. They got a lot to hang around the “other three” but not FT. What are they going to say “He married a woman 25 years younger them him!”

Obama’s fear: will look like a kid next to him

Hillary’s fear: any debate what so ever. He can speak well and is down to earth. Hillaryspeak is a prepared. She’s look foolish robotic next to him.

Oh, yeah, the Democrat crickets are singing loud. They are soooo upset about the possibility that he will run that they won’t even mention him, lest he show up.

I’d pay good money, as they say, to see a FT vs Hillary debate! That’s what’s on my Christmas list!

If FT jumps in, I think he’ll set a record for fundraising. The Dems would have a cardiac!

Continue to ping me and give others the time to decide if they want them or not, in other words don’t pull the plug just yet.
