Tech killer was 'obsessed' with girl who had new boyfriend (New info)
Timed of London ^ | 4/17/2007

Her smile shines out of the pictures posted on the Facebook website under the title of “Why Emily Hilscher was cooler than me”.

The girl who is believed to have obsessed the Virginia Tech killer, Cho Seung-Hui - and may have been his first victim - had a lot of friends. More than 200 had posted tributes on the website today.

Ella Miller, an old class mate, wrote: “I remember her untieing my shoes with a fork, when we played in the woods around her house in the club house, going to the beach with her and her family. Spending the night at her house and staying up late playing cards, her teaching me how to play the saxaphone, summer crab feasts, swimming in the river, jumping on trampolines in the rain, backstreet boys concert, her putting worms on her nose lol...and it wasn’t just her personality - she was gorgeous!!”

Photographs on the same website show a pretty young woman, preparing for a toga party, going on an 8th grade field trip, and arriving at her high school prom. Described as a straight “A” student, Ms Hilscher, 18, spent most of her free time horse riding and hoped to become a vet.

”I’m interested in pretty much everything,” she wrote on her MySpace page, in which she refers to herself as “The Pixie”.

She added: “My friends are what keeps me smiling. I’m into snowboard, riding and music. Give me something I can bang my head to or dance like crazy, and I’m all over it.”

Ms Hilscher had met a new boyfriend, about whom she gushed about on her page. “I live, love and get booted but eventually that will change...I now have a wonderful guy who is hopefully going to change all of that.” College friends said her new boyfriend had just dropped her off before the massacre.

Ms Hilscher, a first year student who was studying animal and poultry sciences and equine science, was the next-door neighbour of Ryan Clark, a residential adviser at the dormitory where the shooting started.

It is believed that a morning argument in the dormitory at the Virginia Tech campus led Cho to kill the teenager and Mr Clark who had attempted to come to her aid.

Her grandmother, Merle Hilscher, 71, described the tight bond Emily had with big sister Erica, 21, who attended a nearby university. “They were very close all their lives,” she said.

“Now one of them is ended, but we have to carry on.”

On her Facebook tribute page today, Cody Yager wrote: “Emily was one of my first friends here at [Virginia] Tech. How could such a beautiful soul be removed from our lives?”

Will Sonnett from Rappahannock County High School in rural Virginia, said: “Emily Hilscher was cooler than me because she could make friends with a glance and a smile. She never hesitated to make someone, anyone feel at home with kindness and an open mind. Thanks for being awesome to lame little 8th graders, and for making stupid computer classes unforgettable.”

Wow, she had quite a “resume” for someone so young...animal/equine sciences takes a very fit person (mentally and physically)...obviously very active. Very sad.

Oh please...you seem to be going out of your way to paint her as an angel.

This is quite a bizarre myspace.

And FYI, that is not a flattering picture.

I think the killer stalked her he never dated her - never was her girlfriend.

You know this as fact?

>As an admitted old fogey, how about they rethink this co-ed dorm stuff?

As a teenager
I stayed in a co-ed dorm.
It was wonderful.

We all got along.
Nobody got killed. The mix
I think helped us all

get accustomed to
how the real world differed from
a sheltered home life.

And I apologize for the use of the expletives, but we’re grown-ups and if we’re going to parse the myspace, we have to talk about them.

To me it looks like she was easy, a little unstable, befriended a murderer, and her having sexual relations with other guys triggered all his insanity.

Oh.... then she must have deserved to get killed ... Pathetic.

Put a uniform on this kid and he looks like one of those guards on the bad side of the DMZ.

I see she lists her religion as “other.” I notice some people here suggesting the gunman targeted Jews. I wonder if she was Jewish.

The thing is, how do you advise girls to not make eye contact or acknowledge people for fear one of them will be a stalker?

As a father of daughters who will go off to college a decade from now, I don't know.

I will teach my daughters to carry a firearm and be well-versed in its use, and to ignore stupid campus rules like that of Virginia Tech.

I grew up in NYC and have a sixth sense for people who are "off" - I don't know if my daughters will have those instinctual streetsmarts.

And if someone is "off", whether eye contact is made or not or they are acknowledged or not doesn't really matter.

What set you off about it? The use of words like "s**t" and "f***"? Okay, it's not that classy, but it is not at all unusual on myspace.

Careful - I got a 10 day time out a while back by a power-tripping mod for using those words (quoting someone, not using them against another person here).

Tragic, there are tears in my eyes just reading the tributes from her friends. I lost a son when he was 18 years old, just beginning life. Forever young in our memories, God rest her soul.

I really dislike it when I have to spell out the most commen sense things to people. I think what I’m saying is obvious.

I would freak out if my 18 year old sister had a photo on the web of her with her skirt down to her pubic bone and exposing her tattoo in a drunken pose. It doesn’t look good.

Besides the cursing, look at what she says on myspace.

“i unfortunatly am alone... all alone.. i live love and get booted but eventually that will change. have a wonderful guy who is hopefully going to change all of that... but dont know what is going to happen. i’m into snowboarding riding and music. “ That is bizarre.

How about this “i’d have to say i’m interested in pretty much everything except history... thats sh$$ rakcs my last nerve so give me some thign to talk about and i will talk”

Or this “my hero is justin fuc#### burger for doing whatever the hell tickles his fancy at any given moment. more power to you man..”

Time to open on campus training classes.

You are not an old fogey. Several college girls have mentioned that they wished guys wouldn’t be allowed into the dorm rooms, that it was disruptive.

My dorm had boys and girls in different wings of the building. Not that it mattered. All the skanky girls sent their sleep over boyfriends to use the communal bathroom. Imagine stepping out of the shower and encountering several strange men.

You are quite pathetic to come up with that lame straw man post.

If this was the case, that he was stalking her, this reminds me of that case in San Jose years ago where a co-worker was stalking a lady engineer who worked at a High tech company in the San Jose and ended up shooting her, She lived, and killing 7 others who worked with her.

I could have swore that anti stalking legislation got passed because of this, but would that have stopped this nut? I doubt it.

Looks like fairy typical myspace stuff. There’s a lot of needlessly confused and lonely teenagers in this country, eventually they grow up and wonder why they were so goofy when they were young.
