WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court upheld the nationwide ban on a controversial abortion procedure Wednesday, handing abortion opponents the long-awaited victory they expected from a more conservative bench.

The 5-4 ruling said the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law in 2003 does not violate a woman's constitutional right to an abortion.

It’s going to have huge political implications..all good for the GOP..most American’s don’t support PBA, yet the Dem left will DEMAND fealty from the candidates. remember the FIRDST Dem debate of the 2004 primary campaign was held at the NARAL convention..

Which part of the Constitution gives the Federal Government the right to pass abortion legislation ?

The 14th Amendment.

I’ve read that among single-issue voters on abortion, the anti-abortion voters outnumber pro-abortion. Not by a whole lot, but still.

To ALL GW Bashers - How do you feel now? This only happened because of GW! Thank God for this great man and great president. We are lucky to have him. For those of you that have abandoned him, bash him on FR and stab him in the back, shame on you! GW, a great president that deserves more respect from conservatives and republicans.

Don’t discount the influence of Chief Justice Roberts. Situations like this are exactly why Bush appointed him as Chief Justice.

So lets hear from the 'conservatives' that have been screaming for 6 years that George W. Bush isn't 'conservative' enough for them.

Bush is a christian socialist. Why is it surprising that he is against abortion? The term "conservative" means more than just anti-abortion.

I know some do. I have been posing this every 50 posts, new page. I will chill but wanted to make a point for the pathetic constant whiney bashers of GW. Many unborn children will not suffer from the horrific crime of late term abortion again by getting their skulls crushed because of him.

This is one example of how important it is that we all get out the vote in ‘08. If the RATS maintain a congresssional majority and gain The White House, all the senile, sleepy old men in dresses will back out of the way in order to clear the decks for more ACLU-approved nominees.

The next election cycle is not a time for folks to sit on their hands and teach a lesson to the Republicans. That kind of logic, when faced with illegal and dead voters by the millions is self-defeating horse hockey.

I’m so tired of the all-or-nothing conservative wing I could puke. These selfish people are going to lead us to eight years of evil and darkness fom which we may never recover.

Haven’t heard why Kennedy would have a change of heart on this issue.

Perhaps he's starting to realize that in the next life he's gonna be held accountable for his actions in this one.

I'm curious about that myself.

The 14th Amendment gives them the authority.

Taking a cheap shot on a day when he has helped many, many future children. Sad and very pathetic. You deserve another Clinton and not someone the quality of GW.

This ruling seems to take at least some power out of the hands of the states.

Isn't that just what Roe did?
