“However, after the second incident, the department received a call from an acquaintance of Chos, who was concerned that he might be suicidal, Flinchum said. Police obtained a temporary detention order from a local magistrate, and in December of that year, Cho was VOLUNTARILY but briefly admitted to Carilion St. Albans Behavioral Health Center in Radford, NBC News Jim Popkin reported.”
You have to read way down on the article but the above quote is in there.

He wasn’t found legally incompetent, or mentally incapacitated so voluntary, as opposed to involuntary, is the key here. If you go voluntarily, there are no records to be kicked out during a background check when purchasing a gun. That’s how I understand it anyway. See #9 on the list.

This is what happens when you make the INSANE into a protected minority group whom the rest of us are expected to tolerate, no matter what they do or appear ready to do.Bump.

The fact is if this shooter in VT did not want to sign himself in for help, the system would have let him go. The ACLU would have defended him ,even against his parents. The problem is the mental health providers are even over ridden by liberal judges. If he got two more roommates and they said he was ill in some way , the system would tell his new roommates to butt out. This is a failure of our mental health system because they are bound by the laws which really endanger ourselves. We saw what could happen in Mondays attack on those kids. If any of our public officials would like to do something about the massacre besides run their mouths, this would be the place to start proposing policies to make it less likely we will have repeats in the near future.

Our policy makers right now are liberal. They are so liberal, they will continue to ignore the people in the field. The people who work with people like this man who butchered these kids in VT will once again go to the back burner and they will not change the laws. It is the attitude of liberals that if you leave them alone and let them go home ,they will take care of them selves. Well, sometimes they can’t . I had a post to me from a mental health worker who stated on this forum,”it is very hard to get a judge to commit someone and sign that order.” If we continue to go this route we will have another heartache. Since my children are out there in these colleges, I shall continue to speak out as to what is wrong with this system. I hope we have learned that if we do not take this illness more serious and put people who cannot for any reason help themselves in hospitals until they get much better ,we will see another issue like this. I pray to God I am wrong>
