Jurors in South Dakota's first capital punishment case with a female defendant were deciding Wednesday whether to sentence her to life in prison or death by lethal injection.
The same 11 women and one man earlier convicted Daphne Wright, 43, of kidnapping and murdering Darlene VanderGiesen, 42, another deaf woman from Sioux Falls, in February 2006.

Nelson told jurors their verdict will be just if they treat both women equally. VanderGiesen was white and heterosexual. Wright is black and homosexual.
I had to read the article again to figure out who was the victim and who was the perp. Wright is still a gallows bird, but it is likely she will get a pass by reason of membership in three favored groups.

“Jurors.... 11 women and one man....” - from the article.
Also, proof positive that the Nineteenth Amendment is responsible for the decline of Western Civilization.
They went thru every possible appeal. It eventually went back to W’s desk and he of course did the right thing. I’ll never forget the statement he made a short while before her execution. It was the first day I hoped he would run for president.
