LAS VEGAS —Arizona Sen. John McCain said critics complaining about his recent joke about bombing Iran should "lighten up and get a life." "Please, I was talking to some of my old veterans friends," the Republican presidential candidate told reporters Thursday, a day after he parodied the Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann" at a campaign stop in South Carolina. The senator changed the song's title to "Bomb Iran."
"My response is lighten up and get a life," he said.
McCain's quip, which was circulating on the Internet, was prompted by an audience question about whether the senator believes the U.S. should send Iran "an airmail message to Tehran."
"That old, eh, that old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran," McCain joked and broke into the melody: "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, anyway, ah ..."
McCain then said he agreed with President Bush's policy of protecting Israel from Iran and working to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Asked by reporters Thursday if he thought the joke was insensitive he said: "Insensitive to what? The Iranians?"
McCain, speaking at a press conference before a fundraiser at a Las Vegas casino, also responded sharply to comments made Thursday by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Reid said he thought the war could not be won through military force, although he said the U.S. could still pursue political, economic and diplomatic means to bring peace to Iraq. He called the Iraq war "lost" and said Bush's plan to increase troop levels "is not accomplishing anything."
McCain, a defender of the president's troop surge proposal, blasted the Nevada senator, saying his comments would hurt troop morale.
"It seems to me Sen. Reid has lost all sense of priority," he said...

I agree! Yesterday when I first read about this I though he might be losing it...but I was wrong..I’d read it out of context.
It’s a rare day when I agree with McCain.
Good on him.

I actually saw Vince Vance and the Valiants perform the song “Bomb Iran” in Dallas in 1986. They have a wWeb site, I’m sure.

If the choice is between Rudy and McCain, there’s no choice at all. McCain’s a no-brainer.
And he is starting to sound better.
I just wanted to question why they was built on defending a draft dodgers lying under oath but now attack a war hero.
Those are just words.
Look at what McPain has actually DONE:
1. McCain co-wrote an amnesty for illegal immigration senate bill with fellow socialist Democrat Ted Kennedy. This bill would give Amnesty to 30 million illegal aliens currently residing in the U.S.A . The bill included a chain immigration provision that would allow 30 million illegal aliens to bring all their family members into America. That will bring in an additional 200 million 3rd world immigrants and destroy the U.S.A as we know it. Democrats are in the process of making this bill even worse. This bill has to be stopped.
2. Mcain-FeinGold law took away freedom of speech In America. Hitlery will be albe to censor polital blogs using this law of McCain and Democrat FeinGold. Hillary will say that a blogger is contributing to a campaign by posting by supporting a candidate. McCain worked for over a decade with ultra leftist communist groups to write McCain-FeinGold. This law has to be repealed along with the thousands of other big government laws created by Democrats over the last century.
3. Gang of 14. Still several judges have not been confirmed to the federal bench.
4. Voted against Bush tax cuts.
5. Opposed “torture” of Gitmo Al-qaida detainees etc.
And all of sudden he is saying “conservative” things just in time for the election. How convenient.
I am well aware of Senator McCain’s record and would only vote for him if the choice was between him and Mrs. Clinton. His position on immigration makes me want to puke. But when someone does the right thing, they deserve the kudos.
Thank you for the information. I won’t call though. He will never hear the call so I am not going to waste my voice on him. I am going to stay on the pubbies.

If Mc Cain makes it I can force myself to vote for him. Which I will take anyday over Rudy.
