this is not really a conservative site

I know the troll to whom I responding has (thankfully) long since smashed his itty bitty pointed head up against the hard, unforgiving surface of the FR BugZapper... but: I never do tire of giggling helplessly at self-described "libertarian" chuckleheads lecturing real, actual conservatives as to what the latter actually is/ought to be.

*snort*

The following now appears on Central Scrutiniser's home page, where anti-Christian cartoons and an anti-censorship poster once resided:

This place is full of brainless authoritarians.

Call me when order, reason, and logical thought is restored.

Till then, go ahead and kill yourselves and a site that is supposed to be about liberty and freedom.

If Reagan were alive, he’d kick you all in the ass.

Kev, make sure your crew chief paints a red star under your canopy rail. :-)

***Thanks, I’m just now getting around to some old pings. I don’t know what “red star under your canopy rail” means. Oh, well. It seems pretty obvious that the guy was an antichristian bigot. This thread was the precursor to the bug zapper thread. I thought I was just one of a few who felt frustrated with the way things were going on Free Republic. It turns out that there were a ton of conservatives who were sick of the treatment.

This thread below was a turning point for me. If this forum was going to let these kinds of vanities get posted without doing something about it, it meant that FR was leaving its conservative roots. I was getting ready to start looking around for a new conservative home on the web. Now I feel like I don’t have to.

All this re-defining conservatism conveniently overlooks the fact that this is a socon website. I’m not interested in re-defining conservatism to fit the image of your tootyfruity solib candidate. I doubt Jim Robinson is, either. Such attempts are much better suited elsewhere, on another website. We’re pushing a socon candidate on a socon forum and running into people who like to think of themselves as conservative but they’re pushing a solib candidate on this socon forum and trying to get socons to compromise. Knowing that a solib candidate splits the socon republican base and that no republican ever won the presidency with a split base, that leaves me to conclude that this cult of personality values its own solib beliefs more than the health of the republican party. Folks like you are doing REAL damage to the republican party and I doubt your loyalty to it.

As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc.

I don’t know what “red star under your canopy rail” means.

Oops! Well, you know how fighter pilots paint a small flag or other symbol just below the cockpit of their plane to symbolize an air-to-air victory? The canopy rail is the structure a canopy slides on or (in modern fighters) rests on. BTW, those little national symbols (like the RAF "bullseye," the German cross and our white star on a blue circle with "wings") are called "roundels."

You got a kill (even if he did fly into a mountain on purpose!) so, if you were fighter pilot, your crew chief would be painting a liberal roundel--a red star, of course--under your canopy rail.

My favorite "kill" pic:

Thanks for standing up for real conservatism and a united party. To continue the fighter motif, call me any time you can use a wingman. :-)

You mean the polls showing that Rudy started off with enormous leads, apparently based strictly on name recognition, which have dwindled down to practically nothing as Republicans have found out what a liberal he is?

You mean the polls which show him trailing badly in the states where the other candidates have introduced themselves to the voters, like Iowa AND New Hampshire AND Nevada AND South Carolina AND Michigan...

Face it: Rudy is done. My bet is that next week’s Rasmussen shows Romney within striking range, and that Thompson will move ahead of him as soon as he announces.

...to cast the founding fathers as universally — or, even, in the main — as exemplars of strict morality is historically incorrect....

I'm late to this thread, but I must point out that the pecadilloes of the founding fathers are not reasons to accept that pecadilloes should be enshrined in law and protected from "discrimination", as is today's definition of liberalism. Under the predominantly Chrisitan social ethos of the time, certain behaviors were recognized as evils that would adversely affect society. Unrepentant persons who practiced social evils were widely understood to be sinners in need of redemption, not victims of the prevailing ethos. That is a very different proposition from today's celebration of deviance and demonization of morality.
