Alec Baldwin issued an apology on Friday for unleashing a volcanic tirade at his 11-year-old daughter and blamed "certain people" for leaking the rant to US media.
The Oscar-nominated star of "The Departed" branded daughter Ireland a "rude, thoughtless, little pig" in a fiery voicemail message that emerged on celebrity websites on Thursday.
It is the latest twist to the bitter legal wrangling between Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger over custody and visitation rights relating to Ireland. The couple split in 2001.
Baldwin's tirade was apparently triggered by Ireland's failure to switch her mobile phone on for a scheduled call with her father.
"Once again I've made an ass out of myself trying to get to a phone at a specific time," Baldwin says in the message. "I'm tired of playing this game with you. You have insulted me for the last time.

Sure there is no shortage of Alex Baldwin haters on FR.com, but he is clearly an abusive person.
It ain’t as if that fellow has his head screwed on straight, cuz he don’t.
Someone of his stature, and willingness to scathingly criticize publicly folks all over the place for any number of reasons, simply ought to be more well behaved in every aspect of his own life.
The truth is IMHO is that Alex Baldwin is a very dumb guy.
I well remember his rant against Henry Hyde. He wanted us to go to Hyde’s home and stone him and his family to death.
Was that the fault of his divorce as well?
This is a madman who needs to be committed to a mental institution. Yes, against his will.
Are you a female? "Pig" has an entirely different innuendo towards a female than towards a male.
Perhaps we should pray for Stephen that he would have an opportunity to witness to his angry, out of control brother.
This public humiliation might soften his heart.
No doubt Baldwin made a total ass out of himself. But I wouldn’t exclude the possibility that his wife is also crazy and sadly plays the daughter against the father, goading the fool on, knowing that he’s a volcano. The fact that this is even public lends itself to that possibility. In other words, I wouldn’t be surprised if the child is messed up because BOTH parents are freakin’ nuts.
The reality is, people get angry. You can only push a person so far until they go off the edge. I’m not saying I was always screamed and yelled at like that, but, there were heated occasions when horrible words were exchanged. And apologies exchanged afterwards. That’s LIFE. EVERYONE DOES IT. If you have never said something in anger that you regretted, then I bow before you and kiss your feet.

You just described my childhood. The verbal abuse was just as damaging and damning as the physical and sexual.
What didn’t damage my body, wrecked my soul, my spirit and my sanity. Guess you would call it a multipronged assault.
Today, everything I have and everything I’ve gained, every shred of sanity, every bit of spirit, every accomplishment, every micron of self worth I’ve struggled to build against the constant litany of words that still repeat in my head like a broken record.
And you know what, I still have moments when I don’t think I have the right to breath air.

Baldwin is hurting his child.
If Balddwin didn’t have a history of becoming physically violent, this one incident may not be so disturbing to me. But, he does.

Alec Baldwin is a world renowned tough guy. He proved it repeatedly to his ex-wife while they were married. I'm sure he would prove it to his 11 or 12 year old daughter, if she should ever doubt or question this.
I wish he would prove it to me, as I am doubter.

Adult to adult is one thing. But a Father doing this to an 11 year old girl will destroy her inside. Believe me when I say that if it is a pattern with him, she’s better off never being around him.
If your father hates you, no many living can love you. That becomes the mantra inside a girls head.
Mayhap … if you moved out of her basement, she would be less inclined to care about how your personal cleanliness habits were progressing! ;-)
Hey Baldwin, Kerry is on the phone and wants to explain to you how this can be said to have been a joke.
I can’t seem to find any evidence that he hit his wife. I guess that what follows is asking Alec when he stopped beating her ( drum roll)
I’m not a big fan of his, but having gone through a bad divorce myself and having an ex who (at first) pulled a ton of crap, I kind of sympathize.
My daughter has told me that she hated me for a couple of years after my ex continually pushed her own and only her own viewpoint. Visitation was hell, let me tell you.
Fast forward a couple of years and things could not be better. The ex is now all “I made some mistakes”, “it’s all behind us” and to be honest my daughter and I laugh at most of the crap that went on.
Kids grow up and believe it or not, are not stupid. They make up their own minds.
Alec, IMHO, was however badly parenting a ton better than most the the parents out there. Who here, with children, can honestly say they have not said things they have regretted.
My son had a horrible accident once and was hospitalized for two months. Believe me I went through all the bad things I had said to him, when I’d become angry or impatient, told him I was too busy to play outside, chided him on homework badly done. I stood over that hospital bed and thought of every moment. My son is healthy, still loves me and I don’t think holds any grudges.
I lay down the law, am somewhat strict but never forget to tell him I love him.

Child abuse if ever there was.
I don’t necessarily agree that Baldwin’s actions are an indicator that he loves his children, etc., but I will say that the things my dad used to say (and do) make this guy look like a nurturing angel of mercy. I do not, at all, like the idea that his message to his daughter was broadcast to the world. None of us knows the context of this reprimand, for one thing. Condemning this guy for using harsh words with his daughter can only lead to an atmosphere in this society where any parent is afraid to use even the sternest language toward their children lest it be used against them. We already have enough problems with under-disciplined kids in this country.
I have been pretty angry at my son at times, but I have never and would never berate him like Baldwin did his daughter.
