Do your children have children of their own yet?

Yes. Stephen must be completely heart broken over his brother’s stubborn spirit. The two are like light and darkness.

I hear you. God bless you always. You are His child, only rented to them. They failed, not you. But God will never fail you. Many of us undergo awful experiences before we surrender to God. He wants us to come to Him.

The trouble with childhood abuse, even for people who survive it, it the need to reinvent yourself.

And further, THE trap is the seemingly unending hope that somehow the parent(s) will stop the verbal and psychological games and abuse, which never happens. Very few people understand the arena of psychological abuse. I hope to publish my book on the subject one day.

Because he has not demonstrated that he is beating or raping the child his outrageous verbal abuse of her is okay?

Sorry but I think your childhood experiences have warped your sense of right and wrong.

NO abuse of a child is okay, and Baldwin’s behavior is way out of line. This wasn’t a recorded conversation, it was a phone message and he demonstrated what a narcissistic jack@$$ he is (as if we didn’t already know) with absolutely no idea of how to raise a child. If I was Kim Basinger that man would NEVER see my daughter again!

Sounds like he refuses to have a cell phone but his 11 year old is expected to have one on her and turned on at all times so he can call her and tell her what a pig she is.

My parents always used the belt on us, and my dad would occasionally whack us in the back of the head with his Holy Cross ring as we walked past him after a chewing out.

But my parents never...NEVER used such demeaning language towards us. Never. Never. They KNEW that words can hurt much worse than a belt ever could, and would leave marks for a long time.

That was just awful hearing that. Awful. What came out of that man’s mouth to his child. And it was telling about the kind of person he OBVIOUSLY is. I don’t care how much he has been yanked around by her, her mother or anyone else.

VERBAL VIOLENCE

Not only does he not have a cell phone, but Baldwin
thinks Friday the 20th is the day after Wednesday the
11th, He doesn’t know how old his daughter is and he
expects her to pick up the phone on a school day at
10:30 in the morning. Most schools’ don’t allow kids
to have cell phones.

VERBAL VIOLENCE

As an adopted mother I can assure you that I would never have passed a home study if such behavior was documented in my past. And as a human being, I am saddened that you think this is normal behavior for a parent. It is not. I can not believe the rationalizations that I have been reading. If Alec Baldwin was upset about his inability to talk to his daughter, why didn’t he simply say so. Further, I did not hear him say one time how much he loved her. Face it, he is a control freak who thinks the whole world revolves around him.

Believe it or not hleewilder, many children are not emotionally, verbally, physically and/or sexually abused by their parents.
Abusive parents come in many forms.
It is generally a mistake for those adults who were abused as children to set the bar for what is “real” abuse.
We tend to set the bar pretty high, since we don’t really know any better, do we?
How could we?
I can’t offer you proof of the real percentages, as I am unaware of any reputable study with provable figures.
In my own experience, based upon conersations between myself and other adults who have compared our lives(for one reason or another) I tend to think it’s maybe 50/50 among the population.
50% being unable to even remember an instance of parental abuse.
The other 50% are split up unevenly between people whose parents had minor controll “issues” and ranging the entire abuse spectrum to unspeakable torture.
The other lucky 50% are not overreacting when they express horror and outrage at what they rightly perceive as abusive behavior.
I want “those people” to set the standards of what is acceptable and expected behavior for “normal” parents in our society.
Perhaps people like you and I should be given the task of setting appropriate legal penalties.

If your father hates you, no man... living can love you. That becomes the mantra inside a girls head.

I agree. The same is true if a mother behaves hatefully. The message is: How can anyone love me if I am unworthy even of my mother's love, or my father's love?

Apologies are cheap after the parent has used the child for an emotional toilet and has just taken a big dump.

“Per KABC, Baldwin is now threatening to sue TMZ’ Harvey Levin because of the audio recording’s public release.”

The same group that is screaming about the release of this tape now had no problem at all with the illegally obtained wiretap of House Republicans that wound up in Jim McDermott’s possession.

Losing your temper and saying stuff that you might regret later (and have to apologize) just shows that Baldwin is human, fallable and loves his children, but demands their respect as the bottomline.

Losing your temper and saying stuff you regret later is one thing, but Baldwin went way, way, way beyond that. He called her a pig, twice, and he threatened her. He couldn't even remember her age in that rant. There was no fatherly love in that message - that was nothing more than a boorish, egotistical sack of dog crap with a grossly exaggerated sense of self worth using his little girl to play dominance games with his (I'm sure) equally sleazy Hollyweird ex-wife. But Kim Basinger's trashiness is a whole other issue, and if he had directed that rant at her, it would be a whole different deal.

If I had an 11 or 12 year-old child, and if any adult had called my home and left that kind of message for him or her, I would have driven over to that son of a bitch's house that night and stomped him into the ground.

Condemning this guy for using harsh words with his daughter can only lead to an atmosphere in this society where any parent is afraid to use even the sternest language toward their children lest it be used against them.

Characterizing his words as some form of appropriate discipline is like serving manure as "food" because it is organic.

Words are for communicating discipline with love. You can be stern without lacerating the child's soul and threatening the child "when I get out there I'm going to straighten your a** out..." — that's ABUSE OF POWER.

I'm very glad someone publicized this. Too many irresponsible big-money parents buy their way out of accountability.
