Giuliani claimed he was the “most qualified” to fight the WOT, to which I reply:
Giuliani sought and took a deferral from Vietnam to (pre)serve himself; his son is currently enrolled in a famous college of prestige.
One candidate served the United States, IIRC enlisted, for the Vietnam struggle; his son is now serving the Iraq struggle.
And Giuliani claims “best qualified”? He’s just a conceited, balding bloke.
I think you hit on something very revealing here with that comment. The democrats have successfully convinced you that conservatives are evil, and that we need to become a more “moderate” party that is accepted in the mainstream. The democrats and MSM have gotten into the heads of many conservatives by making them think we’re bigots and extremists. The daily attacks on conservatism is tough, and brutal, and I believe that many conservatives have decided it isn’t worth it anymore. In other words, they’ve decided, it’s too hot in the kitchen and they’re gonna get out.
People think by nominating a more “moderate” candidate, like Rudy, our party will become more respected, and accepted by our enemies. So they compromise their principles and back a candidate who has nothing in common with conservatives. The MSM has succeeded in wearing down a lot of conservatives who just can’t take the constant drumbeat of criticism, being told that they are religious fanatics who are out of the mainstream. After a lie is told often enough people begin to believe it.
This is one of the reasons that I believe Rudy is popular in the republican party right now. People think he will bring us a “better image”, and that our critics will back off and leave us alone. They couldn’t be more wrong. To compromise our principles is nothing more than admitting defeat and surrendering to the enemy. Conservatives need to quit drinking the liberal kool-aid, and quit worrying about the lies that come from the democrats and MSM.
For me, conservative values and principles are worth fighting for, and if it means I will continue to be demonized for who I am, so be it. I am a conservative, and I’m proud of it. I will not compromise for the sake of my enemies. They will always be my enemies—because they are liberals.
I've not yet studied the positions of the Republican hopefuls, so I don't have a choice yet. I do however visit FR regularly and am disappointed at the amount of dogmatism I'm seeing. It weakens conservatism and strengthens the liberals.
Here’s Giuliani’s quote:
http://nymag.com/news/intelligencer/30661/
It is something I understand better than anyone else running for president.
So maybe we should vote for the Hildebeast? < /sarcasm>
It would be interesting (in a train-wreck sort of way) to find those types of quotes from him and contrast them to similar quotes from history.
That one sounds like something I have heard attributed to a Roman Senator, back in the day.
I have a problem with *most* politicians, each of them (in turn) seems to compromise their values in order to ‘win’ elections.
I absolutely long for somebody to grow some ‘nads, stand up and tell it like it is.
JR posted the text of something that Fred Thompson said (on radio I think) about the disarming of America. He was blunt, and probably pissed off Rosie O’Donnel something awful, but every word that he said made me Proud to be an American.
I think that the America that I desperately want to live in is populated with people that would make me just as Proud. I see young Americans actually making a difference in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places, both more and less friendly to our interests and am humbled by their efforts. I see business owners forgoing paychecks to help an employee (who is told to keep it quiet) with a sick child, and am astonished at the self sacrifice that goes unknown.
Rudy does not even come close to representing the kind of America that I want to live in. And I don’t care who gets elected as long as I continue to ‘do the right thing’.
“Can anyone even possibly suggest that Rudy Giuliani is conservative?”
Well Jim, Rudy’s momma seems to understand that better than some people here who continue to defend him...
“He only became a Republican after he began to get all these jobs from them. He’s definitely not a conservative Republican. He thinks he is, but he isn’t.”
— Rudy’s mother Helen
Momma knows best.
Excellent comment—and very true!
Try to official Jefferson organization:

My point was it went from impossible to could have.
His wave has crested and his support decreases as his principles are exposed to the general public. And the flip flopping and spinning do not help.
He has tried to make himself as the only candidate who can win a WOT. I think this arouses suspicions in those who understand that winning at anything is a team effort. And real team leaders do not call inordinate attention to themselves.
If I could trust that Rudy could return the "social issues" exclusively to the states, I might give him some consideration. But, that toothpaste is all out of the tube. Strike 1.
And based on his record in NYC, the prospects of getting illegal immigration under control is bleak. Strike 2.
Sordid personal life. Strike 3.
Yer OUT!!
I am a despised moderate.
To me, a liberal spouts “hate America, blame America, hate white people, blame white people, hate Christians, blame Christains, politics of victimhood, never take responsibility, always blame others.”
IMO this liberal philosophy is a dire threat to the future of our country, and, if the democrats get in total power, horrific laws will be passed. Carter and Clinton are already spouting this BS around the world.
This is not what Rudy is about.
The country has weathered more, and worse than anything currently ‘on the table’. Why would you sell a short-term ‘gain’ for your soul?
Rudy is a liberal. Should be a Democrat.
Rino Rudy will destroy the republican party. He has to be stopped.
He once was, but changed when it was in his interests.
“The fact that Rudy is affecting you and other loyalists this way tells me that for the first time in modern politics, the GOP runs the risk of allowing a true third party threat to take shape in 2008.”
A “threat” that is long overdue in my view. The question that I think is about to be answered for conservatives in very clear and stark terms is whether or not the GOP stands for anything at all other than the election of it’s members to political office regardless of ideology.
I guess you know this because Rudy says so, even though you have all the evidence that proves that liberal Rudy does what Rudy wants to do when Rudy wants to do it.
JulieAnnie is POISON to the Republican Party and conservatives values. We need more people like you to CONTINUE to highlight that!!!
As I have repeatedly said on here,,,,
liberal Republicans like JulieAnnie are much more dangerous than liberal Democrats,,,
because liberal Republicans BLUR THE DISTINCTION between conservatism and liberalism,,,
MAKING LIBERALISM MUCH MORE ACCEPTABLE!!
