I am not a collectivist - and I do not like collectivist coercion which would be necessary for your scheme. Voluntary abortions are about as far as one could go.

OK. So, if a parent realizes, when their offspring has reached the age of 20 years, that their child is a drain on society, should the parent be then allowed to voluntarily abort that child?

In classical Rome the </i>paterfamilias</i> held that power regardless of age, and did not need any reasons - drain, or no drain. Under normal conditions the cases of that power exercised were extremely rare. There are parental hormones - oxytocin, I believe. Besides, the children knew enough to behave.
