New York leads the nation in taxes and fees. Like everywhere else, you pay for what you get. When a place is in demand, you pay for it.
Gosh, I just learned that popularity = taxes, and that's a good thing! NOT.

Funny, when those new yorkers retire, they tend to go to states without income taxes. Those places are in demand, but they’re not the tax hell NY City is.
I wonder how they ever manage? Could it be they don’t spend huge amounts on social programs????
