"Why? Why even spend that much?" - As was stated in the first part of my sentence you truncated, I would rather not spend anything at all. But I am not a legislature - i.e. I do not have the authority to re-write the budgets, regulations and tax codes. Indeed, one could argue that if I and others like me were given that power, the tax load would shrink, and 'welfare state" will be found in history books only.

Are you still discussing this? I can’t believe anybody had any trouble understanding you. If you can get away with not spending anything, you will be happy not to.

But if someone is going to be on welfare and cost the taxpayers $100,000, you would much rather pay $500 to have them murdered, because it will cost you less.
