Sonic, although I believe NCLB was/is a colossal disaster, I see your point. No one is going to satisfy everyone’s desires. It is unrealistic to believe so. Keep up the good work, my friend...:-)

..I do not like to get into the minutiae of policy and records, unless there is a REAL smoking gun.

If a candidate has character, backbone and a vision, that's all I need to know.

If you are looking for perfection in a human being, you are whistling in the wind, for no man is perfect, no not one.

Yes, that's exactly my point. Which is why, as I've said, I don't find a lot of the Hunter-supporter attempts to cast Fred Thompson as a "RINO" to be all that convincing. Hunter's not perfect, either. Both Fred and Hunter are conservatives - I'd argue that on the whole, when you weigh everything, Fred is about as conservative as Duncan. Fred made a mistake in supporting CFR (which he has recanted sincerely, btw). But Duncan's porked it up during his tenure in Congress, too. People make mistakes. But all the same, let's hold Duncan to the same standard we're holding Fred, shall we?

Certainly. I haven’t said anything bad about Fred.

Even when looking objectively, these two are leagues past Rudy McRomney.

Being a purest, my definition of Porkbarreling is the original. All things become corrupt in time, especially in government.

Oh, I see. I usually prefer not to use the 18th century definition of words, since doing so makes it much more difficult to communicate effectively with people in the 21st century, unless there is a very specific philosophic point that cannot be made otherwise.

But it’s all we have, and it is the best in the world right now. Don’t worry, Titus, you have not burst my “bubble”. The fire in my belly rages on.

"All that hate's gonna burn you up, son."

"Keeps me warm."

(Anyone remember where that's from?)

Your ambiguity on Duncan Hunter - is it meant to help or to hurt him? You come across as a hurter of the first water.

Whoa, calm down now, don't go all NC State fan on me. Just because I don't think Duncan Hunter is Thomas Jefferson reborn doesn't make me a hater, okay? I don't have to put the Duncan Hunter Wolfpack trailer-hitch plate on my Duncan Hunter red pickup truck to be a fan. I've said before that I like Hunter - I think I've been plain about that. I've also said that I think that Hunter supporters cannot really make the case that Fred Thompson, who I like *better* than Hunter, is some sort of closet liberal, just because he has done a couple of things conservatives don't like. So has Hunter, and all I'm asking for is for people to accept the more realistic assessment of Duncan Hunter - good, but like everyone else, he's had a few problems as well.

Duncan Hunter must really freak you out, Titus. I guess in order to be in Fred’s bed you HAVE to be double minded. Very revealing, but I think it’s time to put a cap on it, old man. Ta ta. Paperdoll

What’s all that about? All Titus said was that both men (like all politicians) have had a few problems. He doesn’t like that some Hunter supporters try to tear down Fred because of some supposed case of liberalism when our own guy has had problems as well. What’s wrong with that?

If you think it’s necessary that I defend myself: I think the Dems will be hard put to find mud to sling at Hunter. Republicans don’t have to help them out.

Thompson is a pushover to the Demonrats. We don’t need any more ‘new tone’. And, frankly, there’s going to be a lot of “Fred who?” questions by people outside Republican/political circles. His lack of military service is going to seriously hurt his chances in regards to explaining Iraq.

“Thompson is a pushover to the Demonrats. We don’t need any more ‘new tone’.”

On issues that related to federalism and the role of government, he was the lone dissenter in a number of 99-1 votes. Only Ron Paul has a record as strong when it comes to resisting the expansion of the “leviathan”. That is hardly what I would call setting a “new tone”.
