I'd like to thank NZ Bear for giving me the opportunity to address the readers here at Porkbusters. I really appreciate that because Porkbusters, the Club for Growth, and the rest of the blogosphere have provided an invaluable service for American taxpayers by highlighting wasteful spending and working to get it cut out of the budget. There have been a few Republican politicians who seem to have a problem with that, but I'm not one of them.

UHHHH...Duncan then why did you vote against ALL of the Flake amendments????
Why did you vote for the 8 trillion dollar medicare D?
Why did you vote against the RSC alternative Budget in 06?
Hunter is more conservative then Fred Thompson but when it comes to fiscal issues Mcinsane is to the right of this entire field. Sad but true.
Go Duncan Hunter/Fred Thompson.
McCain voted against repealing the estate tax past 2010. Fred voted for it.
CAGW PRAISES THOMPSON REPORT ON FEDERAL MISMANAGEMENT
Key excerpt: “Once again, Chairman Thompson deserves great credit for exposing the pervasive problems in the federal government,” CAGW President Tom Schatz said. “As CAGW has documented repeatedly, many federal agencies and programs are duplicative, unaccountable, nontransparent, get poor results, lose money, are mismanaged, and outdated. These problems have persisted for decades, and as this report indicates, are growing worse and require rapid action.”

CITIZEN GROUP SALUTES “TAXPAYERS’ FRIENDS” IN CONGRESS: JUST 36 LAWMAKERS RECEIVE AWARDS FOR SCORES ON NTU’S 2002 RATING
Key excerpt: Not all Members of Congress fought day in and day out during 2002 for the principle of limited government that is the cornerstone of our countrys greatness, said NTU President John Berthoud. Fortunately, at least 36 allies in Congress demonstrated an unwavering commitment to taxpayers. We are proud to honor this fiscal coalition of the willing.

(Fred) Thompson Earns “Restoring the Balance” Award from National Conference of State Legislatures

His voting record on fiscal issues year by year is available from the National Taxpayers Union. On taxes he remained good throughout his career, but on non-defense spending Duncan Hunter was a conservative who became a wastrel.
With only $250,000 in his campaign warchest, he’d better be fiscally conservative.
I like Duncan Hunter, but isn’t he somewhat known for porkbarrel spending himself, when it’s his own district at stake (as if any other Congressman isn’t....)?
McCain has been to the right of the other three leading candidates on spending, but, looking at his record during Bush’s first term, the Senator is probably to the left of them on taxes.
Great line. One thing for sure - he's no longer riding back and forth to D.C. on Duke's private airplane...
Not if you consider limiting the role of government to be a central tenant of conservatism.

Ping-a-ling.
Darn spell checker. :-)
Show us. With references of the bill.
You're believing PROPAGANDA that pops out every time Hunter does well in a straw poll.
Pork is tracked every year, and there are lots of porkers, but Duncan Hunter has never been listed.
Here's the list since 2001 of the porkers of the month. Lots of R's and D's there, but no Duncan Hunter or House Armed Services Committe, which he headed .
They do show as porkers among many:
Tommy Thompson, Sen. Robert Bennett, Sen. Joe Lieberman , Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison , Rep. John Peterson (R-Pa.) , Sen. John Thune,Reps. Tom DeLay , Sens. Hillary Clinton , Sen. Larry Craig

And what has Thompson done to limit the role of government?
Damn - you will have to excuse me - I will try to find it.
I’m not deriding Duncan.
You do appreciate that he and Duke Cunningham were truly the best of friends - don’t you.
Not to infer anything evil here - but they were buddies.
