The media is trying to give Clinton and the Left some credit in the history of the fall of the Soviet Union. Nope. It was Yeltsin.
Yeltsin's bloodless coup overthrew Gorbachev's Soviet government on August 18, 1991. The Ukraine became the first Republic to vote to defect from the Union on December 1, 1991. On December 8, 1991 Russia, Ukraine and Belarus signed the Belavezha Accords which declared the Soviet Union dissolved and established the Commonwealth of Independent States.
William Jefferson Clinton became this nation's 42nd president on Jamuary 20, 1993. His first act as president was establishing the wildly popular "don't ask - don't tell" policy for our nation's military.
Liberals can practice revisionist history all they like, but it is easily documented that Clinton had absolutely nothing to do with the fall of the Soviet Union. The most significant foreign policy development of the Clinton presidency was the rise of al Quaeda.
