Your husband's priorities are in the right place.
My attitude about TP changed forever after my first trip to Crete in '77. The stuff they had in the barracks was closer to medium grade sandpaper.
On my next trip, I packed 3 rolls of the good stuff in my baggage.
The second trip (in '81) was better than the first in several ways: flying commercial (instead of in a C-130), was a member of the advance party (instead of being a green 2LT with two platoons to keep an eye on), and had more time for sightseeing (Heraklion and the Palace of Knossos) and relaxing on a wharf in Chania, although I did get to spend two days in Athens on my first trip.
I remember that plus in Germany, pages of the TV guide. But civilized London had proper loo paper, altho very, very thin, each sheet printed with the words "Property of H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth." I'm not *****ing you.
