Harry's War - Democrats are taking ownership of a defeat in Iraq.
Opinion Journal ^ | April 25, 2007

....As for Iran, Mr. Reid's strategy of defeat would guarantee that the radical mullahs of Tehran have more influence in Baghdad than the moderate Shiites of Najaf. It would also make the mullahs even more confident that they can build a bomb with impunity and no fear of any Western response.

The stakes in Iraq are about the future of the entire Middle East--and of our inevitable involvement in it. In calling for withdrawal, Mr. Reid and his allies, just as with Vietnam, may think they are merely following polls that show the public is unhappy with the war. Yet Americans will come to dislike a humiliation and its aftermath even more, especially as they realize that a withdrawal from Iraq now will only make it harder to stabilize the region and defeat Islamist radicals. And they will like it even less should we be required to re-enter the country someday under far worse circumstances.

This is the outcome toward which the "lost" Democrats and Harry Reid are heading, and for which they will be responsible if it occurs. The alternative is to fight for a stable Iraqi government that can control the country and keep it together in a federal, democratic system. As long as such an outcome is within reach, it is our responsibility to achieve it.

It would be nice if the electorate views it that way and gets mad, but I don’t think so. The electorate threw out the GOP in November. The electorate that voted Dem surrendered in November. The Democrat Congress is just doing what they were hired to do.

The Democrats have made it perfectly clear that they DO NOT REPRESENT over half the American people nor do they care if we are ever attacked again!

Dems only care about one thing, power. If a few people get toasted in that pursuit, it is an acceptable loss as the end always justifies their means.

The democrats actions remind me of those old movies where the tribes would continue to sacrifice virgins(innocent US citizens) to the gods(terrorists) in hopes of appeasing them. Of course those gods would always continue to demand more.

I'm not being cynical, but I think lot of Dems DO hope we're attacked simply to destroy the bottom line success of the Bush administration - preventing major attacks on US soil since 9/11. They will be distraught if Bush leaves office with the country unscathed.

This point needs to be front and center for voters to mull over.

Americans need to wake up to some headlines reminding them what is at stake. The MSM will carry the Dems water but real conservative leadership can find ways to get the war on terrorism threat before the public.

What Reid and Pelosi are doing now is putting American troops at risk and emboldens our enemy.

“...if Bush leaves office with the country unscathed.”

That’s heavy! Unfortunately it’s true.

These Democrats are not good people.

MANCHESTER, N.H., April 24 — John McCain will formally launch his bid for the White House on Wednesday in the state that vaulted him to national prominence eight years ago, and if a candidate from either party needs a fresh start, it is the embattled senator from Arizona.

...McCain has sought to diversify his message with recent speeches on the economy, energy and global climate change. But Iraq remains the overriding issue hanging over his candidacy.

John Weaver, McCain’s chief strategist, said the senator remains well positioned to compete for the nomination, noting that McCain is tied or leading in polls in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. He also said McCain has better state organizations than his rivals have. “We wouldn’t trade places with anybody,” he said.....

.....“This war ends when they stop coming here to kill us!” Giuliani said. “Never ever again will this country ever be on defense waiting for (terrorists) to attack us if I have anything to say about it. And make no mistake, the Democrats want to put us back on defense!”

Giuliani said terrorists “hate us and not because of anything bad we have done; it has nothing to do with Israel and Palestine. They hate us for the freedoms we have and the freedoms we want to share with the world.”

Giuliani continued: “The freedoms we have are in conflict with the perverted, maniacal interpretation of their religion.” He said Americans would fight for “freedom for women, the freedom of elections, freedom of religion, and the freedom of our economy.”

Addressing the terrorists directly, Giuliani said: “We are not giving that up and you are not going to take it from us!”...

I think it’s called acceptable collateral damage to them but I hope not to the majority of America. Amen.

Why are our Republican leaders not screaming this from the rooftops? I question how much Americans really know about what is at stake.

Maybe if we bought ads on American Idol or some of the other
shows......

Vice President Dick Cheney yesterday criticized Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for making “uninformed and misleading” statements about the war in Iraq.

“What is most troubling about Mr. Reid’s comments yesterday is his defeatism,” the vice president said in a rare Capitol Hill press conference.

“Indeed, last week, he said the war is already lost, and the timetable legislation he is pursuing would guarantee defeat.”

Mr. Reid, Nevada Democrat, fired back by calling Mr. Cheney an “attack dog,” the same slur he used to describe the vice president a day earlier.

“The president sends out his attack dog often, also known as Dick Cheney, and he was here again today attacking not only me, but the Democratic Caucus,” he said. .....

By contrast, Mr. Reid's strategy of withdrawal will only serve to enlarge the security vacuum in which Shiite militias and Sunni insurgents have thrived. That's also true of what an American withdrawal will mean for the broader Middle East.

This is exactly what Senator Hooey wants.
