Hunter calls for Reid to step down over 'war is lost' remarks

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Duncan Hunter called Wednesday for Sen. Harry Reid to resign his post as Senate majority leader over remarks that the senator made last week that the war in Iraq "is lost" if the United States continues on its current policy.

Hunter, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, is the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee.

"In my opinion Sen. Reid, having made that statement, which can only have a demoralizing effect on our troops and an effect of encouragement of the adversary, I think it would be appropriate for Sen. Reid to resign his position as the leader of the United States Senate," he said.

Every single solitary member of the Senate and the House should be doing the same thing. But other than Hunter and maybe 1 or 2 others you couldn’t find a backbone if you put the entire bag of jellyfish all in one bowl.

I doubt I would make a good politician. Here’s how I might address the chamber. “Madam Chairperson, requesting the floor for 3 minutes to comment on the words spoken by the honorable Senator from Nevada. Let me start out by saying I like Harry Reid. To piss on. I reliquish the duration of my alloted time.”

If the media gave Hunter the attention he so richly deserves, you all would probably hear more gems like these:

"The Democrats’ bumper-sticker plan is simply to deploy to the rear and retreat. To attack what is happening in Iraq is easy, to defend it takes more time."

"I don't think I have to criticize either Hillary or Obama. I think that they are doing a great job together of carrying out that task themselves."

"These are the people who tried to kill us. It includes the guy -- the 20th hijacker, that was Mr. Qahtani who was caught coming in -- who didn't make it to the planes that drove into New York. Here you have a guy who was on his way to kill 5,000 Americans, and we have people complaining because he had a dog bark at him in Guantanamo."

"The American people must realize that a Gore administration would be populated by many of those responsible for the failures of the Clinton administration. Rearranging the deck chairs will not save the ship of U.S. security. The new team must be competent, professional and pro-defense. That means it can't be Al Gore's team."

"Liberals are already declaring defeat (in Iraq) but they didn't inform the US Marines. It is in our best interest to expand freedom. Free nations are our allies and friends."

Is there a more complete transcript of Duncan’s statement floating around?

This is what I’m talking about. I want bold.

Where are the other candidates? There should be a chorus of calls from every Republican in Congress, from the White House, and if this were a righteous world, from the Democratic Party as well, for his immediate resignation.

What he has said is shameful, but there seems to be a severe shortage of shame around and about these days. What he as said is shocking for an elected leader of the US government, but I don’t hear any traces of shock anywhere.

If we don’t hound such a man from office, I don’t see how we can with a clear conscience ask another man to die in combat.

Here’s another gem:

“One thing that he reminded us was, this is a test of wills and he admonished us, reminded us that what we say to the world, to our adversaries and our allies, is listened to by the other side,” said Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.

“It must come as a shock to Al Qaeda leaders to have an aide come into their safe house and tell them that Senator Reid has declared that, in fact, they are winning and the war is lost,” Hunter said. “I think it’s highly irresponsible for the leader of the U.S. Senate to have said that and, just speaking for myself as the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee, I think that the leader of the Senate should step down from that position.”

"the senator made last week that the war in Iraq "is lost" was the statement Reid made.

There was no "if the United States continues on its current policy." That's just CNN whoring it's ethics out to help the enemies of this country, just as they edited out the truth of what was going on in Iraq before we went in to settle up Saddam's bill to humanity.
