I find this poll very interesting and informative. As most of us have known for a very long time, the death penalty is not a partisan issue in the United States, with a staggering 69% in favor of capital punishment. It's also good to see that, in spite of recent claims to the contrary, most Americans still prefer the death penalty to prison for convicted murderers. And most of us have no problem with sending Osama Bin Laden out of this world, either.

What is a bit more surprising is that our fickle 'allies' are actually very liberal when it comes to the death penalty, with few exceptions. It's nice to see that Mexico and South Korea have the right idea, but what about the Canadians???!! A majority oppose the death penalty, just 25% actually want it carried out and only 42% want Bin Laden dead? Pathetic.

The British aren't quite so bad, but the Germans, Italians, French and Spaniards are simply outrageous.

It’s kind of moot point in regards to OBL and the death penalty. If he’s found he won’t make to it trial.

I wonder how they chose their countries? That seems to me an odd list of countries.

Probably the only ones that could muster a reliable and relatively uncorrupt voting system...

The US is the one that lost 3000 people.

Frankly I don’t give a damn what any other country has to say in the matter.

The Congressional Democrats, all of them, are traitors. They are directly causing more of our soldiers to be killed or wounded. The penalty for the Democrats’ treason should be death by hanging. The penalty for bin Laden should be the same (so as not to make it “cruel and unusual punishment”). There is no difference between the Congressional Democrats and bin Laden, except he may be a bit smarter.

In my humble and sarcastic opinion, both the Republicans and Democrats are so incompetent they wouldn’t know what to do if he turned himself in at the local police station.

We spend too much time worrying about what other countries ‘will think’.

Its of interest, dont’ get me wrong. But I could care less what old Europe thinks about anything.

...and that kind of attitude is why you dont have more support from your allies.

Yes the US lost the most, but there’s still plenty of mourning families all around the world.

This poll, if accurate, only reflects how removed many societies are from reality. And why Jihadists have such contempt for the western world.

It also shows why bin Laden will ideally be killed on the spot - as Saddam Hussein should have been.

I’d be willing to send bin Laden out of this world myself.

...

We have allies to cut down on the number of people we have to kill.

Curious. That’s the same attitude the Islamists have.

Haha.

Globalization is a failed proposition, just like socialism and its counterparts. There are quite a few benefits to isolationism, the most obvious of which is not having to listen to the opinions of countries who aren’t doing you much good in the first place. See previous comments, my coffee cup is still on its first fill.

If bin Laden were ever found alive (he won’t be) I would prefer, instead of execution, to lock him in solitary in a room painted red white and blue with the Star Spangled Banner and Onward Christian Soldiers played repeatedly through loudspeakers 24 hours a day, seven days a week until he either dies or goes mad.
